Call the police to see if you can have the cars towed. OR you could try the "catch flies with honey" approach by asking them nicely to move--explain your dilemma. Good luck. That would irritate me, too.

In america on public streets you can park wherever you want and there is nothing you can do about it. You could probably buy an old shopping cart somewhere for moving things, that is what my aunt did.

There is not much you can do if the cars are parked legally.
You could ask the owners to leave you some space for yourself but be polite. If you have a older relative or friend that visits that can't walk far is a good item to add when you ask. Sometime just asking and being polite can go far.

if at all possible, block them in with YOUR car. We had a problem with our neighbors parking in our drive way when we moved in, they knew we were here, but didnt seem to care. SOOOO one day i told my husband (on his day off [we are military]) to block him in with our car. that way he would get up at 5 in the morning and realize that he can't leave!! That was the very last time they parked like that.
Get a sign and put it up that says, RESERVED PARKING

Actually, depending on your city laws, there IS something that can be done. First of all, are you the home owner or renting? I own my home and have the same problem. One thing you can do is approach your councilman and ask to have a No Parking sign put in place in front of your home. Take pictures so you can have something documented to show. If you have a driveway, you can ask the city to extend your driveway down to the curb. In some cities, like mine, legally you cannot park within 10 or 15 feet of it. Also, do the cars belong to a business' customers? Your councilman can also write a letter to the owners of the business and owners of the cars. Get their license #s and the councilman can do the rest. Finally, many cities have a No Overnight Parking law. If they are blocking your driveway, call the police and have them towed or ticketed. Have fun.

Over the years I have learned THE HARD WAY never buy or rent a home near a School, apartment building, shopping center, busy thoroughfare, church, hospital, or fire station.

The LAST one, the fire station, is the latest pain in my neck, as I have to listen to sirens about every 15-20 minutes.

Thankfully, my neighbors leave my well used spots open and I do the same for theirs 99% of the time, but they can legally park there as often as they wish.

Best answer usually the simplest
If those cars are not blocking a driveway, they are not violating anything. It is the side of the road and you like they pay taxes for that road. The road in front of your house is the road(not yours). So where is your garage? Use it. Those are the rules.

The only legal thing you can do is:

go to your doctor, ask him to fileout a handicapped parking form for your state (he should have them on hand and he must say you are permanently disabled), once you get the handicapped placard approved by the state then file for a handicapped parking spot in front of your house.

Unfortunitly though, if one of those anonomous parking spot hoggers also has or obtains a handicapped placard then they can still legally take your spot, BUT you can petition the local council for a second spot, however they usully will not give two spots on one street..

Unfortunitly in the US any parking space on a publically funded road is considered a public space and can not be reserved by an individual.

But if you run a homebased business and recieve or can prove that recieve alot of shipments that require a handtruck or forklift for delivery there is the possibility of having a "loading zone" space issued in front of your house. then you just have to contact the local police and inform them of your car, most municipalities will allow the owner of the business or an employee of the business that reserves the "loading zone" space to park there.

Now if someone else parks in your loading zone you can not have them towed you can only call the police and request them to be ticketed, after a few tickets they should get the hint.

Oh one more option that I have seen work, get together with your neghbors, get them to sign a petition to make the street a "private road" and then mark spaces in front of each persons house for them to park as reserved then you can as a committy develope a parking sticker or other way of identifying who can park in which spot.

The draw back to this is that as a private road the municipality will not maintain the street, when it needs repaving your committy will have to hire a contractor, also if the electric gas or water companies, or other company such as telephone, cable etc..) needs to cut a hole in the street to repair, replace or otherwise gain access to thier pipes, wires etc, then you will be billed from them for the repair to the patch.

My parents have this for thier the street that goes behind thier blocks houses. it is labled as a "private drive" and only residents are allowed to use it. But they also had to fork over $45,000 cash divided up between 12 homes to repave it last year.. ouch...

If you don't have off-street parking then theres nothing you can do about it. You could always go to the local council and apply for off street parking, which would mean you always have a place to put your car and nobody would block it.

Did you ever think that the cars parked in front of your house belong to people who live 3 blocks away? The streets are public, therefore parking is not reserved. That's life in the big city. I feel your pain.

You could 'try' something that I've seen done in some east-coast American cities: put a chair, shopping cart, etc., in the curb space in front of your house...maybe even 2 or 3 orange traffic safety cones. What the heck, it might work...even if it just works some of the time it's worth it.

Buy the street property from the village or have a personal driveway built. How far away from your house do you believe you have more rights than anyone else? Your question assumes you have privy to the street more than your neighbors or their guests which also have a reason to park their cars, I'm sure if they had a choice since they are not visiting you, they would rather park closer to their destination if they could. BTW, how much walking is it from the street to your door that you have a problem with packages and it raining? If you can walk and buy things in the store, without parking in front of the door, I'm sure you can make it from the street to your door. I always use an umbrella in the rain.

if there isnt a driveway, and there isnt signs saying no parking, nothing u can do. first come, first served. but if they're blocking the driveway, they can be towed at owners expense. u dont give very much info, and there's alot of variables here.

First, place a note on their car's windshield under the wiper, saying that this is a private parking spot and if they keep parking there, then call a towing company and have them towed away.

Simple enough

There is really nothing you can do if it is a public street. You may try going to town hall to see if there is anything you do but unless you get home early which isn't always the case there probably isn't much you can do. See if you can put a traffic cone up. I don't recommend this unless you check with local laws first though. Hope this helps you.

It's public property, you can't anything. I'm a grumpy old man and I bitch a lot. I've lived in my house for 20 years and have parked my vehicle in the same spot every day. Usually I don't have a problem. I don't mind if someone parks in front o my house as long as they only take up one space. If they do I park on there ass! If it were legal to paint individual spot lines I would but I can't even do that because it's public property. My saving grace is I work gravreshift and leave after everyone has parked for the night and come home before they leave in the morning. Maybe you could petition the city to mark spot lines and make it illegal to take up more than one space.
