Please Give Me Some Advice About Driving?

I am 20 yrs. old and I have NO experience under the wheel. I am interested in enrolling in a driving course. The instructor told me that there is a 6 hr. course and a 36 hr course. I told him that I didn't have any experience under the wheel but he still suggested I take the 6 hr course. I also told him that I am not really familiar with the rules and regulations of the road. Yet he still insisted that I take the 6 hr. course.

Is it really that easy to drive a car? I told him that I don't know a lot about it but he said that I should catch on fast.

The reason I am so concerned because the 6 hr. course is 40 dollars where as the 36 hr. course is 300.

I am really pressed for cash. Please give me some advice.

I'd say just do the 6 hr. course. I know it can be very scary when you have never driven before, but believe me, you WILL learn and you will eventually be comfortable driving. To me it was like learning to ride a bike, once you get the hang of it, it is a peice of cake. If for some reason you dont do well with the 6 hr. course, THEN go on and take the other course. But, most likely you will do fine. Dont stress -

You need to learn to drive in one way or another. I have been driving for only 3 years, and already I can tell you that the hardest part is worrying about what other drivers are going to do. Driving is no big deal, and how you obtain a license is your choice to make. If you feel you can get what you need after the 6 hour course, go for it. I don't know what some of the signs on the road mean, but you don't need to know all of them. Go ahead and get behind the wheel, the sooner you do it, the less scared you will be. Just respect the car and other drivers, and you should be fine.

Good Luck

Simply driving a car is not difficult at all. It is driving the car properly that is sometimes the challenge. Just follow the rules of the road and you will be fine.

Driving for the first time is not that easy, unless you are relaxed under the wheel. Also, you must have at least seen people drive for a long time to actually catch on. When you go in the car, do you notice how people drive? What they do? How they look for cars? Signal to change lanes? If you think you can copy their moves, it would be a lot easier because it's probably the same thing. When people start to drive, they tend to go really slow because they are scared and they tend to brake a lot because they are afraid of hitting things. You need to trust your brakes and to let go and drive calmly. If you panic, you will get confused. Driving is easy once you know how. it's something where you only need to learn once and if you can succeed in it, you won't need to think while driving. If you've never had any experience at all, I would suggest you take the longer hour course. You should try those arcade games. They are harder than driving in real life, but at least you'll get a little glimpse of how it is! =)

Take the 36 hour for $300.00 You will get it back on your
insurance, for taking the class. "Guaranteed." <}:-})

I was over 20 when I got my license because I was so afraid of crashing and killing people. Some things I wish I knew when I started learning are:

It looks like people drive in a straight line but they make a thousand tiny corrections to stay that way.

It's easier to let off the gas a little before a stop so you don't have to stomp on the brake so hard.

Drivers are crazy. They will do unexpected things so watch them carefully.

When backing up, turn the wheel to the side where you want the front end to go. I know it's confusing. I had to imagine that I was backing up on a bike.

Once you are at the speed you want just prop your foot up to hold that speed.

I practiced parallel parking, etc. on deserted streets until I was comfortable doing it on crowded streets.

At first it was distracting to listen to music while driving so I didn't.

After a few months it will be much easier.

maybe he owns a car repair shop :)
But seriously, 6 hours is ok for a start (for automatic transmission cars), assuming you can drive carefully on your own after that, with someone else at first.

Don't crash.

Driving is really easy maybe ask a friend to give you a lesson or even your parents the best way to learn is to get behind the wheel and do it yourself just make sure you have someone who knows how to drive with you. Driving course are good but they really are mostly for insurance perposes your insurance is usually alot lower if you took a driving course because your at a lower risk of getting in a wreck. Just like i said get in a car and try it and make sure you pay attention to the drivers around, because some people can't drive so be cautious. Good Luck!!

I think just go ahead and do the 6hour driving course and try and get as much as you can out of it. you can always find a backstreet or a quiet place to continue practicing what you learned at the course. Pick up the driving book at the DMV. it has all the rules of the road for your state.

Well, I don't even have my permit yet, but my dad lets me drive at my cabin, cuz there aren't many cars up there on the dirt roads and the blacktop. You just have to look way ahead of the road when you're driving. Don't look at the front of the car or the cars going by you, cuz then you will get really nervous. Just driving is pretty easy, but learning all the laws of driving and knowing what all the signs mean. If this guy thinks you can learn everything in 6hrs. then take that course. But if you're really unsure, then you should see if you can take a course somewhere else. Good luck! Driving is really fun!

Have a friend help you, go to a deserted area and just get a feel for being in a car and where everything is. THen sign up for the 6 hr course to learn the basics of the laws and stuff. Just relax and be cautious. There's alot of psychos out there. Good luck.

Well, are you gonna learn how to drive a manual or automatic. Automatics are really easy. I started driving when i was 15 and I'm now 24 and I just learned how to drive a manual a few weeks ago. And ya, I think the 6hr course should be just fine. Just pick up a driver's education booklet from the DMV and that'll tell you all about the rules and regulations of the road...

Just remember this. Most of the morons out there riding around can't drive any better than you ! You just need advice in how to avoid them. 6 hrs should be plenty !!

Driving is easy. It may seem difficult at first, because it's new of course! I've been driving for 8 yrs and now I steer with just 1 thumb lol. Take the 6 hours, that's all the training you'll need. Once you got the basics and your license, you have the rest of your life to brush up on your driving skills.

I'm in the UK, and took 12 one hour lessons then passed first time.
I was lucky, as many need much more to pass the test over here, however...
Six hours is not enough time to become competent, and if the difference between spending another $240 or killing either myself / someone else in a road accident ever came into the equation, I'd spend the money.

Failing which, get a lot of experience first with another driver before you venture out alone.

Where do you live - what driving conditions.

If you can avoid heavy traffic, high speed driving, then the 6 hour course may be a good start.

Does the school have driving simulators?

Check out the one I found on line and see if it is any good.

If I were you I would find a place to Learn your signs and learn how all different kinds of intersections work. I am not sure what resources are available to you as I am from Canada. Other than intersections just make sure look before you change lanes and keep an eye out for bad drivers that might be near you. I think I did about 6 hours of driving school for my license although I did have practice aside from that.

Well, my friend started when she was 13, and i started when i was 16. I on the other hand has had several crashes but who doesn't?
Just ask one of your friend to teach you, or your parents. Its free.

Its not that hard when you get the hang of it. when you star practising, be sure to have car insurance. or instead of paying 40 for your course, you'll end up paying 4,000 on fixing someones else's car or yours.

Get a permit and have someone take you driving.
Its the cheapest.
And its how I learned.

I would suggest a course in which you have the opportunity to drive with an instructor in the front seat. It will give you a feel of what it's like so you don't start driving and get all freaked out. Plus, you still have to take a driving and written test to take your license....so I think you'll be fine.

nn200404
Those things are a scam. There's not much to learn, IMO, it's just a matter of getting comfortable with how they maneuver and how the rules of the road work. 6 hours, no more. If you need 36 hours, I would reconsider driving on the whole.

its really not that hard. if you have any common sense at all you will be fine. it takes like 10 minutes to learn to operate a car and thats it. just brust up on rules and laws and you'll be fine. ive been driving since 15 and i never took a class.. just my dad telling me what to do so im sure a 6 hour class will be more than enough for you. i cant imagine them finding enough things to go over in a 36 hour class.

Vanessa<3
You should take the 6 hour course first. Practice driving and see if you feel confident enough to take your driving test. If you don't feel comfortable, get a few more hours behind the wheel. Never take the test if you don't feel ready!

Micha
driving is not difficult. don't worry about it. the 6 hr class should be fine

?
Drive faster you damn slowpoke.
