Police Radios etc.?

Two way radios & CB's are NOT covered under the mobile phone legislation - only handheld mobile phone comminication devices.

If you and your mates have handheld radios - they ARE legal...same with the police. They are NOT breaking the UK law.

it is a instrument that is relevant to their job
which is benefical to all of us
if it helps them catch whoever they are after
unlike a mobile phone which
is probably beneficial
only to the owner
doing private buisness?
it is probably the same thing
as travelling through red lights
and has a certain amount of training
to do it as carefully and safely as possible
behind it.if police stopped at red lights and pulled over everytime they used their radio in emergencys
they wouldn't get very far or get their very fast at all

Creviazuk's got it exactly. I imagine two-way radio was omitted from the legislation because you only have to press the key, not fiddle with loads of tiny buttons.

The police come under the same law as any citizen ,and can be fined for braking the law .

I think police should be exempt for whatever is needed to do their job properly .

i think u will find that the police also have ear pieces for their radios aswell

yes, police officers can give themselves tickets for breaking the law. But if they get into an accedent, they have to file a police report, plus have to turn it in before thier shift is over. If that were to happen to you and your car is hit by a police car while they are talking on thier cbs/radios, you would still have exchange insurance info like any other car accedents.

I do know about the police giving themselves tickets during thier shift for breaking the law because there was a story on odd news on yahoo about 1 police officer who passed a school bus while the bus had thier red no passing lights on. Bear in mind that police drivers be they standard or response level go through many weeks of intensive training & testing over & above the level of the rest of us to drive to the required standard.

They are capable of deciding when it would / wouldn't be appropriate to use a hand held device whilst driving. Most forces try to avoid single manning police vehicles if possible so the "operator" in the passenger seat is responsible for the use of the radio.
