Police Speed Checks, which way are they checking?

Hi, I'm assuming you are referring to one of the 'safety camera partnership' mobile speed camera vans.

They can actually get you in both directions, the type of laser system they use works with 'inbound' and 'outbound' vehicles. Unlike gatso that can only get you from behind, and truvelo that can only get you from the front.

They are actively targeting cars aproaching the camera, but if a car screams past in the opposite direction they can get that too. Normally cars coming from behind the camera have a greater reaction time to slow down according to where the camera van is parked.

Anyways there hiding waiting for you behind a bush or a under pass or over pass in the bar next door to the shoprite everywhere ! Paranoid a ? Once a cousin said to a highway patrol officer after the cop said I pulled you over you were weavin back there he responded I don't see any baskets ! haha..

Do you know what, I was thinking that very same thing today whilst I was driving to my parents.

The police cameras cant flash you whilst you are driving towards them. The lines on both sides of the road are there for the people who would attempt to just fly past the camera over the other lane, plus it makes calculating speed easier incase there any distractions.

However, if you happened to be driving towardsa camera (facing it) and a driver going the otther way set it off, and it photographed you also, the police could still calculate your speed but wouldnt be able to take any action.

Beware though, the next breed of camera will be situated in islands in the middle of the road and will be able to photograph you both ways, also the 'motorway' style 'average speed' cameras will roll-out across the UK quite soon.

Most of the time is a speed trap is facing you. But with radar and laser you can also be hit from behind. It is not as common, because once you pass the speed check point, at lets say 80mph. The cop has to get out of his hinding spot and chase. This leaves a good opintunity to get away, and is much harder on the cop. Facing traffic With laser your car can be hit from 3000ft in a straight line. Average 1000-1500ft. So once a cop determine that he wants you, he puts on the lights and waits for you to pass. Most will point you over. That is a good time, get over, and increase your chances of getting out of a ticket. If he has to chase you, most likely a ticket will be writen.

The ones that go past it. The only time you get checked going towards is if some nazi bully boy is using a hand held device.
