can anyone tell me what it means by more driver education? This is for Australia btw... Yea i just dint quite understand what they mean.. do they mean theat u should take more lessons or stay on ur Ls 4 longer or what??

Driver education is exactly that - educating you as a driver. Despite the overly simplistic "sit 5km/h under the limit for 30 minutes and look in your mirrors a lot" driving tests we have here, there is a lot more involved in driving your car than a lot of people might think.
I'm not sure what source you're citing so I don't know what they specifically mean by 'more driver education', perhaps they just mean putting more ads on TV or extending L plate periods, it's hard to say.
In my personal experience though, *proper* driver education usually includes elements of car control (eg teaching you how to *feel* what the car is doing, or to control your car if it unexpectedly slides, or how to emergency brake properly), hazard perception (how to identify and plan/react to a hazardous situation), anticipating the actions of others, thinking and planning ahead, respect for the potentially lethal weapon you are driving and for other road users, where to put your eyes, smooth inputs... basically all the stuff that roadside signs and sitting in a car with someone with a clipboard for half an hour can't teach you, but which will almost certainly make you a better, safer driver. |

Coming from my own personal experience here in the States. I started driving at 15 1/2. Had my license at 16. My sister on the other hand started at 18 and is a terrible driver: Tickets, accidents and the like. I myself, have had a clean driving record for six years now.
It's all dependent on the driver. |
