It could probably be done using the GPS to determine how fast the phone is moving.
Pro: It would prevent people from talking on the phone at highway speed.
Limitation: It would not stop people from talking on the phone when creeping along in heavy traffic.
Con: It would disable phones for passengers as well as drivers.
Pro (privacy): It would limit the ability of the government to track where you have been.
Con (law enforcement): It would limit the ability of the government to track where you have been.

The pros are non-existant and the cons are everywhere.
It really doesn't matter to me or the person talking on the phone while driving if the fact that they're on the phone annoys you.
If that "feature" (in reality it would be called a restraint) were added by people who think like you, people who think like me would simply remove it. |

People take trains and other forms of transport too. |

When you are talking about cell phones and driving really I would think that the cons outweigh the pros.
Pros -
*There may be an actual emergency and you may need to use it if you are in a dire situation (Medical)
*If you are in need of directions or you have missed a turn while driving, you may need to call someone to walk you through the turns.
Cons -
*Cell phones being used while driving cause distractions.
*They take your concentration off of the road.
*Causes an decrease in awareness ( oblivious to traffic changes)
* May become erratic in movements, or be slowful in decision making.
I think that this idea is interesting, but I'm not quite sure how it would work. I wonder at what speed range the cellphone would cease to work? Interesting question. |

true trains and stuff lol and passengers in cars that would be annoying but for 911 calls i 100% certain theyll go through even phone w/o sim cards will do this. But i think its probably more of an optional thing where you decide you want to be a safer driver and switch it on so you dont use your phone while driving |

It would certainly reduce a cell phone's value in an emergency. Just another reason to keep buying older cars and fix them up. |

I think that removing the text message feature from phones would solve a bunch of problems. I frankly don't see the point. |

As long as it including texting it would be great. 911 calls could be sent thru ok that would help make it a fact. As far as being on trains and other forms of transportation so what, it is not life threating to not be on the phone every waking moment. |

Are they really thinking about adding this to phones? I had no idea that they would have the capability. I am one of those talkers while driving, and I have seen many, many more. Parents should have the ability to add this feature to teens phones, but like you, I'm not sure how to deal with the emergency aspect of it. |
