Question about stop signs/lines?

If there's a stop sign and there's a stop line a little farther ahead. Do you stop at the stop line or the stop sign?

Stop line. But if you need to check for traffic and the stop line is too far back to see clearly, you can first stop at the stop line, then creep up to the stop sign

Devon S is correct. I will add that many times it is not practical or even possible to put the stop sign at the point where you should stop, that's what the stop line is for. I know of several areas where the stop sign is 20' back, otherwise tractor-trailers would be running it over due to lack of turning room.
