Two of the tires on my car have good thread on them. It's a front wheel drive. Is it best to have the good tires on the front of the car?

I dont know why some people refuse to educate themselves and read some CURRENT articles on this subject. No reputable shop will mount the better tires on the front, its a safety issue. Take a look at the Michelin tire video, Tire rack technical article. And before you give me a thumbs down on this, PLEASE post at least one reputable link supporting your position.
The better tires go in the rear of ANY vehicle ALWAYS!!!!

All major tire manufacturers (Bridgestone/Firestone, Michelin, Goodyear, Cooper, Pirelli, etc...), the Tire Industry Association and the Rubber Manufacturers Association recommend that the best tires should be on the REAR AXLE, especially on a FWD car. This is to reduce the chance of losing control of the vehicle on wet or slippery roads.

i've always put them on the front so you have steering and braking if you are losing traction.
i read a couple of pbleek's links- interesting but the only benefit seems to be in the wet, so i guess it depends how much it rains where you are. most cars have traction control now anyway. |

Yes, for a front wheel drive car. These are your traction wheels. If you purchase new tires have the front ones rotated to the back and the new ones installed on the front. If you replace all 4 remember to keep them rotated. Most of the time when you purchase tires and have them mounted at a tire shop they will offer a free rotation plan. |
