If they raise the driving age to 18 I think it will have the most impact on service jobs. Most low paying jobs, like at McDonalds, oil change shops, and sales, are held by teenagers and I know the main reason for myself at 16/17 for working was to buy a car. Driving privileges should be tied to some type of incentive program. Teenagers who show responsibility, commitment, and academic dedication should be allowed and rewarded with a license. Besides, how will they get to work? It could also be considered a safety issue especially for females. I know I would prefer my teenage daughter to drive herself rather than catching a ride with an older friend or co-worker I do not know. Plus, this is a parental issue and again we are looking to the government to raise our kids. Parents should be monitoring their child's driving and determining if they are qualified to drive. This would just be taking the difficulty of setting rules for teenagers away from the parent and giving it to another authority relieving the the parent of their responsibility. It's a burden to be a parent and if people are out there who don't want to make the tough decisions then let's make more rules about who can be a parent. |

Not a lot really. A lot of annoyed 17 year olds perhaps. I think people should have to take longer learning to drive than they do, but I don't think raising the age will help. I think the driving test should be taken over a period of time as well so the person can be tested in different situations like rush hour, night time and inclement weather. The present system is pretty stupid really, especially with that hazard awareness thing, what is that all about? |

I think they should keep the age at 17 but not allow them to have a car with an engine bigger than a say a 1400cc the pass plus test should be compulsory.
There are alot of young drivers who drive like nutters with no consideration or road manners and things need to be tightened up but increasing the age will not work. |

It will be less gray hair for parents. My son just turned 16 I'm not opposed to him driving at this age, but for some kids, there just not mature enough to handle a car and the responsibility that goes along with it. It also take the parents off the hook if they get into an accident, since they will be considered adults. |

It won't make any difference. It means there will be more underage kids driving without a license.
They should set a maximum age limit. Too many old people are on the road causing accidents 'cause they aren't paying attention. If you are too scared to drive then GET OFF THE ROAD!! |

It will achieve absolutely nothing.
The important thing is that it keeps the jobsworths in work, dreaming up their latest "initiatives." |

One year can make a huge difference! Think about it, when you're 12 then you turn 13 you learned alot during your 12 year old year. I think that the age should be 18 or older. 16 year olds are still really young, and there's no point of them driving. I think there would be a lot less accidents, and deaths if we raised the driving age. But that's just me! :) |
