Rear facing car seat question?

My son is 9 months old and about 29 lbs. The problem is he is still gaining weight and the convertible car seat we have for him is rear facing to a max 30 lbs. So is it worse to have him rear facing when he is past the weight limit or to have him forward facing before one year? Thanks for help

I would get a car seat that rear faces to 35 pounds instead of turning him before 1 year. It's against the law because they have to meet both requirements. If you are short on cash, you can get the Cosco Scenera for 43 dollars at walmart which has the limit to 35 pounds.

I know the expense is a bother, but get a seat that will go up to 35 or 40 lbs rear facing, and keep him rear- facing as long as you can - he'll be safer that way.

And don't worry - their growth rate slows after they get to be a year old.

He has to be both one year and 20 pounds to face the front. Doesn't matter if he reaches one before the other, he has to be both.
Keep his backwards for another 3 months. It's much safer for him like that.
