Rear wheel or front wheel drive for winter conditions?

I'm taking a trip up to NC and NYC this winter and i'm trying to decide whether to take my corolla (FWD) or an s10 (RWD)? i could put weight in the back of either of them, and i'm hope not to have to buy winter tires. there is regular tires on both vehicles right now.
Any ideas on which would be better?

definitely!!! definitely front wheel drive is better in the winter. the vehicle tends to pull you up hills, etc, while a rwd vehicle will push you up, sometimes uncontrollably

Corolla...FWD is better in the snow.
A RWD will fishtail.

I live in a state that typically sees a lot of snow, and I've driven both FWD and RWD. I suggest you take your Corolla.
RWD can be a nightmare in snow b/c it's hard to get traction.

The corolla will be safer overall with or without the added weight, drive safe.
