Reasons not to drink and drive?
|
I'm trying to write a persuasive essay for school, we have to take a groups view and do a paper on it. I was thinking about doing it on MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). All I have for main points is you can kill yourself and others, is there a way I can make that more specific or can you think of a few other good reasons not to drink and drive?
Thanks for any help :)

It is expensive. First time offense costs about 3,000. Fines, alcohol assessment, lawyer, new license. It Costs.
Get out the Yellow pages and call an ambulance chaser. They will tell you the financial end. |

I drank at a club and left for home September 4, 2003. Home was less than two minutes away. As I pulled out in my Caravan I crossed the center line and hit a Geo. The man in the Geo suffered a broken leg and a head injury. He couldn't work for four months. His children had a really crappy Christmas because their dad couldn't work. As for me. I spent almost $10,000 in attorney fees, resitution, got a suspended sentence for 4 years in prison and ended up on probation for 5 years. I will NEVER forget the man's name who I hurt. I could have killed him. I will always wonder if he will have pain in that leg through his life because of me.
Bad idea because you can:
kill yourself
injure yourself
injure/kill another person
end up in prison
endless guilt
a criminal record
enormous legal expenses
increase in auto insurance
losing your license
Too many reasons to list. ONE reckless night. ONE gross error in judgement can change your life and the lives of MANY others. |

...........I need your e-mail to send you this..It will convince anyone I know of..
Reft
PS if you don't wish to do this. I will (am) look and see if it is one the net anywhere.
EDIT-Okay, I found some of it, it does not have all the pictures...but..........this is disturbing to some, so if you don't want to see what drunk driving is, don't look. Just don't do it either. Unless you are willing to do this to others.
http://texasdwi.org/jacqui.html
........Also...a man was drunk and hit another car while running from the police, he jumped out and ran to a fence, jumped it, and was caught shortly after.
The other car, he found out, was his family...this one I have no pictures or sources for, but I believe it.
...
Who cares about the car, the fines, the money and jail...that is nothing. I would never ever trade all of that, and then do this instead, to someone else.
I will never touch a drink.
...if you want the e-mail, let me know. I still have it.
Be well miss.

you need to research statistics that show how much more dangerous driving is when drunk compared to sober. The jump in accidents and fatalities is dramatic and there are plenty of stats available. Google "drunk driving statistics" |

A DUI can make your insurance premiums even higher than they are now. Worse, you may not be insurable!
You can't get a DMV clearance for a driving job.
If convicted, you can spend the rest of your life in prison for voluntary manslaughter (murder) if you are involved in an accident where a death occurred and you were driving drunk. Teens are usually tried as adults in such crimes.
On the silly side, you have a reduced capacity for reason, so you may end up driving up a curb and blowing a tire or ruining the alignment of your car.
You can forget where you live and end up sleeping in a church parking lot (don't think this as not happening...I did it) |

the legal part is not even the important thing.
the important thing is your responsibility and concern to your fellow citizen to keep everyone safe. |

Look into the permanent effects of drinking too much at all: brain damage, making a fool of yourself, etc. Than for drunk driving, look into damages of property as well as damage to people, and take into consideration the indirect effect deaths from drunk driving can have, like the trauma for those people's families. |

1: trees don't move outta the way
2: police don't find your slurred speech that funny
3: drunk tanks are very cold and some with no toilets but a hole in the floor
4: killing other people is sorta looks really bad
5: try just paying the fines your going to get
6: you've probably just ruined your life for the next 10 to 15 years or permanently
7: I could go on but Im typing while driving and Im very drunk! |

Well it is a bad influence for children because its very common that the sons and daughters of drunk driving mothers will grow up to be the same and carry it on. another thing that you can include is programs that can help fight against drunk driving. don't forget to include fatal experiences that people have had because of drunk driving and how it changed their lives. also include how someone resulted after seeking help or quitting drunk driving. in the end write about what you learned over all and just basically your opinion about drunk driving. im sure you'll do well if you just try hard enough. don't slack off and good luck!! |

Death, life changing injures, etc...Sometimes it does not kill the other person they hit. It injuries them where they are no longer able to work or even play with their kids. This effects the entire family in what they go through. It is very difficult and life changing. Even if it was not an adult they hurt but a child that could no longer attend their school, etc... Just remember that when a drunk driver hits someone, it effects the entire family. Trust me, I know. To me it is harder on everyone around and I feel so bad for them. I'm really glad you are doing an essay on them this. I wish your group the best. I hope this helps some.
Sorry, just had to add this to help you---in your essay, take it from a kids point of view and explain to the drunk driver that even though he went to jail, etc... look what it did to your family. Explain how he made you feel that night and how life has been since. He got a ticket etc... but you got life. |

First of all its dumb to drink under the influence. Second, why waste your life on drinking? Third of all people only do this to fit in with others...

You could get arrested and go to jail (and have to live with a criminal record.)
You could injure yourself or someone else permanently.
Your insurance could go up.
You could be an alcoholic (which can affect your life and everyone in it.)
You could influence someone who looks up to you to drink and drive. |

Besides the dying part try:
-DUI means lots of $$ in fines and suspended or revoked license
-Criminal record may limit employment or passport
-Drinking period is bad for your health.
-A Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device may be placed on your car (basically it is like a Breathalyzer except if your over, the car doesn't start)
Just a few things a DUI is very inhibiting. |

you can ruin your life, because you can go to jail, because killing with a car is the same as killing someone with a gun, because it has the same effect. You can put other people in danger, along with yourself. |

The answer is pretty obvious. My mom is a D.U.I. instucture so I know alot about MADD. The reason you shouldn't drink and drive is because you become intoxicated and are unable to drive drive, yet you do anyways which can cause you or someone else to die or get seriously hurt. If your lucky not to hurt anyone you can still get fined for Driving Under the Influence, (influence meaning not only acohol but can also be drugs). |

WELL MANDY, IT'S NOT THAT YOU CAN JUST KILL YOUR-SELF, OR SOMEONE ELSE, IT COULD BE A LOVED ONE, DIES, OR OF COURSE YOUR-SELF ALSO, BUT SAY YOU KNOW SOMEONE, DRINKING, AND DRIVING, AND THEY KILL THEIR OWN MOTHER, IT'S MUCH MORE THAN JUST KILLING , IT AFFECTS EVERYONES LIVES, NOT JUST THEIR OWN, GOOD LUCK ON YOUR PAPER. |

Alcohol lowers inhibitions. The actual loss of ability is less likely to be realized when one drinks. You don't really care, either, if you can't drive well. If you want a non-safety reason, an open container alone in some states amounts to a fine. Here in Ohio I think it's $80.00. Then there's the potential fine/jailtime, and if you are convicted of drunk driving you face having the court record put in the newspaper for everyone to see. Also, if you have your Commercial Driver's License you will automatically lose it and your non-commercial license. |
