Reasons teenagers drink and drive?

There are several explanations for the disproportionately high numbers of teenage alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents - explanations that range from the false notion on "teenage invincibility" to the increase in personal freedoms (i.e. reaching the legal ages for driving and later, for drinking).

For some, letting or encouraging an intoxicated person to drive seems funny. And, of course, thereâ€™s the "I can handle it" syndrome, where the person figures they can "hold" their liquor or that they havenâ€™t had enough to seriously impair them.

Few people realize the effect a mere drink or two can have on their system.

For instance, teenage boys with a Blood Alcohol level of .05-.10 (a figure below what most states consider the legally drunk limit) are a staggering 18 times more likely to suffer a single vehicle crash than their non-drinking counterparts.

Teenage girls at the same levels are an incredible 54 times more likely to crash.

Perhaps the greatest influence on teenagers and their drinking and driving habits is â€¦Peer Pressure.

Peer Pressure doesnâ€™t have to be overt. It can be very subtle. And because itâ€™s so important for teens to feel "in," Peer Pressure, subtle or overt, is a very powerful force.

cause they got a car really you dont see it much when they got a bike or roller blades really thats been happening since they made cars just there more cars now and less guidance from parents...teenagers drink most do and if they got any type of ride they drink and drive why they kids and dont know til its too late

I have actually tried to drive intoxicated, just to try it out. I was totally aware of everything. Ok the story goes..I asked my friend to sit with me in the drivers seat and I started to drive, then half-way down the road, my body functions start to act up and my head starts to get dizzing and then my buddy pulls the e-brake, and says Alright ******** get out and put youre head in the back., Ill be driving the car now Jack.
Thats why you dont drive drunk, different situations aren't always what they appear to be. Your body maybe fine but you're mind isnt focused.

To impress others. For people with functioning brains, it takes more than that to be impressed. Not only do such foolish actions have consequences for the drunken driver, but for others as well.

Because they think they are to smart for them to get drunk and a great many think the laws are foolish and they are above the law.
