Regulations for child car seats?
Find answers to your legal question.

Regulations for child car seats?

UK government requires specially designed seats for children under 12 who are also under 4ft.5ins. in height. This will be a great expense for many families. To what extent may this have been brought about through lobbyiing by the car seat manufacturers, who stand to make a windfall?

Surely this should be a matter of parental choice. The cost is not the most important issue.

I agree with honey pot...Who cares how much it costs!! I am sure your child's life is way more valuable then the money that it cost to protect them and I don't know about the UK but in the US there are plenty of places that will give u a car seat for free or at low cost just for taking a care seat safety class!

The goverment and safety campaigners are hoping this will save 2,000 childrens lives a year, if it saves one it will be worth the cost.

As a parent I would rather spend the minimal cost of a seat rather than risk the health and safety of my child.

Booster seats are as little as £12, not a lot in my book!

the price of a car seat is a lot cheaper than the price of a funeral

The car seat manufacturers were no doubt involved in the commissioning of the report on child safety in cars. Shame I didn't buy shares in Brittax six months ago.

I think it is outrageous, I do not think the old Communist countries would have been as dictatorial as this government.

Isn't it strange that if you're in a taxi it doesn't matter and coaches or minibuses don't have to supply them either.
The law in this case is an ***.
Unexpected short trips are ok too!
Ha bloody ha.
You're spot on.
Less children would be hurt if parents actually made their offspring sit down in the first place, let alone put a seat belt on.
Grrrrrrrr.

Think it was Woolworth's who were selling them at £9.99 for a booster seat! & the more better ones with arm rests and cup holders at £20-25pound... Yes i have to dash out and buy two but the laws the law.. And you can't put a price on a childs life!!!

You're right, of course. Continue to let your children run free in the vehicle no matter what, how dare the government dictate what you must do. I mean if you save money, who cares about the child being hurt, right?

booster cushions range from £5 to £85 so cost is not extortionate it is so the child is raised to the correct height for the seat belt.

I am cynical that it is another way to fine people and line the pockets of big business (who support the gov with donations)
