Has anyone had this happen to them? I was driving along when my car bonnet flipped up smashed me window screen put a dent in the roof, bonnets ****** had to push it back down with such fource its all crumpled. Spoke to Renault about it as there is meant to be a design fault with the catches, they even sent a letter to recall the car to check the part I hadnt got round to doing it before it happened to me ?
Renault are trying to get out of it saying that there is nothing wrong with the catch and it is due to lack of maintanence of the part what a load of ****, who maintains a catch? I asked if this was standard practice in a service, all the could say is that it is for Renault but they couldnt say about other garages.
Again rubbish 1. My BF is a mechanic and services my car and had lubricated the catch as you would normally do. 2. This doesnt happen on any other car other than Renaults between a certain time period.
Mine is a 2002 renault expression.
So now im left without a car or knowing where to go to fix it, I dont wana pay excess on my insurance and loose my no claims over a fault that isnt my own. We are still talking to Renault manager now and he is meant to be ringing back today but going by what other people have said im going to have to pay for this myself.
Be warned if you have a Renault and have or have not had a letter go take it to a Renault dealer to be checked, it is free to fit a new catch that apparently doesnt have a design fault its a joke!
has anyone been paid out on this or did you have to pay for thi yourself?

Recalls happen to all vehicles and a lot of the times people don’t ever get the letter of notice so you can either tell them that you never received it or ask them for what is called “Good-Will” and see if they will help you out, also you can tell them that you are planning to buy another car as well and that might make them help you…best of luck. |

You got a recall notice and "You hadn't got round to it" !
that makes it your fault and Renaults fault for a poor design in the first place. Good luck with your claim
And for what its worth when I service a car I always check the bonnet release and safety catch. I have seen loads of cars when they are rusty and not working correctly. This is because it is at the front of the car and gets rain water driven at it. |

Sorry but you received a letter warning you of a problem that is an obvious safety issue and you choose to ignore it and to get the problem rectified immediately and carried on using the vehicle regardless? Consider yourself lucky you did not receive serious injury or worse or cause serious injury or worse to others. |

Renault know all about this fault and they've admitted it to BBC watchdog!! This has happened to hundreds of Clios and and independant inspector says it's a faulty catch |

Renault clio has crappy bonnet clips, you can get better ones but alot of ppl have had the same problem, |

Serves you right on two points:
1) They re-called the car and you didn't bother sending it in.
2) You bought a crappy Renault, what do you expect from such sh1te. |

I was totally oblivious to this fault of the Clio deathtrap!! As i have only owned a clio for 2years.. I am 3months pregnant an had just got onto a dual carriage way when the bonet flew open cracked my windscreen an put a dent in my roof also causing the interior lights to fall out.. How are they getting away with this?! I could have lost my unborn baby last night because of renaults ignorance!! I am very lucky! |
