Two vehicles approach an intersection on opposite sides at the same time. I'm turning left, so I allow the other guy to go on straight. A lady pulls up to the intersection. It's my right of way. I pull out, and as soon as I get in front of this car as I turn left, the idiot goes. They have their head looking behind them, while taking off at an intersection. They did not even look at me. I hurried out of the way, not having a horn at all on my vehicle, and they almost hit me( about 4 feet from me and they were still accelerating). I was MAD. I screamed "I have the right of way!!!!!" I was MAD! REALLY MAD!!!!!!!! They didn't even hear my scream. I wanted to kick their stinkin' Buick, yank them from the drivers seat, and yell in their face. See how attentive they are after that. They sped off into an alley right quick, and so I didn't get their plates. How can I prevent future incidents? As a two wheel vehicle, I'm finding out daily that people won't see you for some reason. If that was a person with a baby in that intersection, instead of me, that was unable to move as fast as I could, they certainly would've got hit. The driver was looking down the street at something, instead of the road ahead of her. What can be done to prevent incidents like this? It's way too common for me to just hope I can move fast enough. A similar incident happened not too long ago involving a van and a cell phone. That one was much closer, as in inches away from me. I have been hit by a car before, and it's not fun. What can I do to keep safe on the road?

You guys/gals don't understand. It's a four way stop and I was in the intersection when they flew out of there. The person didn't go until I was in front of them. They let me go, then tchanged their mind right when I got in front of them, pretty much.

Sounds like roadrage to me. There is a number one rule for extending you life when it comes to Right of Way. IT"S BETTER TO GIVE THAN RECEIVE. Give the other guy or gal all the right of way they want. It keeps you in a better position physically. That other guy may be someones old decrepive mother anyway. |

To keep safe on the road you have to loose your attitude.
I've been on two wheels over 40 years and don't seem to have any of your problems. I always ride or drive with the attitude that no one can see me. If you assume that they can see you you're going to be hit. Ride as though you're invisible!
Learn defensive driving. Fix your horn.
Do not ever assume you have the right of way. As soon as that lady pulled into the intersection ahead of you, SHE had the right of way. You had it maybe, but she took it and you have to respect that (or get hit?).
Watch the other driver. You might have the right of way, but if they don't see you and then proceed, they've got it now. Many car drivers look to make eye contact, and look to where they expect to see a driver. If you're on a bike on the right side of your lane, they won't see you. Ride on the left side of the lane, with your wheels where the left car wheels would be.

Was this a TWO way stop? or a FOUR way stop?
If it was a two way stop, you DID NOT have the right of way to turn left, even if there are 100 cars going straight from the opposite direction..
"When two facing vehicles approach the intersection at the same time, BOTH drivers can move straight or turn right. If one driver is going straight, while the other wants to turn left, the driver that wants to turn LEFT must YIELD the right of way, and must wait until the turn can be made safely"
"When two or more vehicles reach the intersection at the same time, the car to the LEFT must YIELD the right of way"
The only time a left turning vehicle has any sort of right of way, is at a 4 way stop, where the person who gets there first, goes... and so on...
Or at a FLASHING green light...
Otherwise.. YOU, the left turning vehicle with a broken horn, has to wait your turn!

you dont have the right of way at a two way stop sign when you are turning into the oncoming traffics lane,to make your left turn the car to the oppisite side has the right of way,because you are turning in front of them you have to wait for the lane to clear before you can make your left turn,don't demand the right of way give it and you will never get into an accident ever.be a defensive driver not an offensive one..make sure they see you.remember the smith system in driving it has been out since the 1950's... |
