Road pricing good or bad idea?

Bad idea. This is another TAX. Fast Freddie obviously has money to burn and can afford to pay up to go to work, go to the out of town shops (town centres are shut), go to the nearest post office (most are closed or are being closed), go to the petrol station (all the rural ones are closed and so are those in town), pay more for all your goods due to increased transport costs and so on.
People do not think through or even want to understand the implications or such stupid schemes.
Toll roads do not always work as can be seen on the Coastal road in Spain where the toll road is empty and the old dangerous coast road is even more of a high speed death trap. Again not thinking through the consequences and making the tolls too high for people to regularly pay. |

It's terrible. We already pay extortionate road tax and despite the talk of stopping it in place of, we'll end up being lumbered with both.
If the fee's were lower it may work. But to show you how far out of touch Blair and Brown are, they actually think we all go out between 8 and 9am and 5-6pm to annoy them!! They don't realise it's because we need to get to work!! And please don't quote me the rubbish of why don't you take public transport? If you have been on public transport then you know why. You pay a large fortune to sit next to a bloke hell-bent on showing you his entire collection of ball-gowns for slugs, then end up being dropped a 20minute walk from work with only 5 minutes to get there in the pouring rain. So you run, slip down and break your ankle, then to top it all off you do this in the path of an out-of-control tank carrier!!! By the end of the day there isn't enough of you left for the vultures to pick at!!! Any questions?!!? |

I think it is a good idea in principle. Congestion and pollution are growing, so encouraging people to reduce road travel is a good thing. Also if people have to pay for a car trip or a train trip it is a more equal choice and more people may choose more sustainable transport which is better for tackling climate change. Also if the supermarkets which transport their goods miles have to pay for road usage, then that is fairer on the smaller local shops & local food producers which find it hard to compete. |

Terrible idea!
Have you noticed that all vehicles already cough up for using the roads, in the form of Road fund licence, fuel duty, tax on fuel duty andmany many more taxes and duties.
I retaxed my car last week, £175. A small estate car that runs on Bio Diesel and returns about 50 mpg. Our van also was retaxed, £170 for a big thing that only returns 32 mpg and can not run on Bio.
Where is the logic?
Where do the funds go to?
Assylum seekers get it all, that's where! |

Worst idea ever.
The UK already pay HUGE taxes for the priveldge of owning a car.
Gas / Petrol is down to £0.90/litre...it was nearly £1.00 a few months ago - that's about $2 a litre!! 70% of which is TAX.
We are also TAXED for 'Road Excise Duty' commonly known as 'Road Tax' varies from £115 to £320 a year for a car depending on the model, emmissions etc.
Taxed every time a speed camera gets them (I have a clean licence) - they call them safety cameras...crap! Do they catch reckless or drunk drivers? Fined for parking in your OWN street without a permit in some large cities.
Now they want to charge us by the mile!! A premium motorway (highway) at rush hour is projcted to cost upto a £1 a mile and £0.20 off peak. Soon everybody going to and leaving work will be working for nothing...I hate this 'effing country and it's corrupt leaders. That's right... shut down schools & hospitals...and give more money & houses to the scum that won't work. |

It's an excellent idea!
Everywhere around the world where I've driven on priced roadways has been a wonderful experience, especially the fact that the traffic moves along quite smartly (there's a novel idea, yes?). |

Good have u seen the roads in France they charge u but its well worth it, as the roads are good and there are rarely traffic jams unlike the ring road round London. |
