Running a red light question?

Well, I do live in MD, so I understand the laws around this state. Its similar to that of DC. If you see a flash then you were caught. Chances are if you didn't see a flash then you might have escaped, but that isn't always true. Some cameras do not flash, but they still take a picture of your back license plate. If you know for a fact that you ran a red light and the camera was in that particular intersection then you might end up with a ticket. As far as your other questions, you would be fined along with possible jail time if you were pulled over by the cops. You said you are 14 and 10 months. First of all, you shouldn't have been driving without a license. That within itself could mean possible jail time. If you were stopped by the police, they would have taken all of you into the police station and alerted your parents of what happened. But the fact is you weren't stopped so you did get away with it. But you need to learn a lesson from this. Don't speed, and get a license at the proper time. Also fines do vary when it comes to running red lights. They range from $70 - $200, depending on where you live.

I'd say don't worry about it. You can never see the person in the picture, plus it comes, like 6 months later. Don't do it again, though. that's totally fricken' dangerous!

The fine will be issued to the registered owner of the vehicle since the license plate is the only way to ID the vehicle. If you're mom gets the fine, it will include pictures including the date and time and intersection. She will know she wasn't driving and I'm sure will be very upset with you. If you were my child, I'd not let you drive till you were 18 because of this. But your mother may be more forgiving. Oh and offer to pay for the fine that will put her at ease and show you are taking responsibility for your mistakes.

There is no way we can know if you WILL get a ticket. You'll just have to wait and see if it comes in the mail.

Right now, it's your decision how you will handle it. Do you tell your parents right now,or would you rather they get the unpleasent surprise of opening the mail and finding the ticket?

Here's the other issue. If the camera did take the picture, there is a good chance that they caught your face in that photo. Yes, the citation will be to the registered owner, but your parents will know exactly who was driving that car. What penalties come down on YOU depends on what THEY want to do. They can just pay if for you, take the "hit" on points and quietly pay the increased insurance premium, or, they can try to tell the court that it was YOU driving without their permission.

In the first case, this incident could cost them several hundreds of dollars. In the second case, you could lose your chance of getting a permit or license until you are, at least 18.

And, you know what? The courts won't care that you "promise" you won't ever do anything like that again. They won't give you the chance.

Yes, I am a Maryland State Officer and you will recieve a ticket and two photos to use in court if you feel that the camera was errorous. Also, you broke the law, kid and you will feel the long arm of the law reaching out expectantly for you.

Well it wont show who was driving. So they will assume it was your parents driving giving THEM a ticket. SO you will be fine as long as your mom doesnt know you were the one driving.

well cameras like that u wouldnt see a flash, it will probably take no more than a week, and a half, but i think thats pushing it. they probably want to get those tickets out ASAP. more money for the gov. that was not a very good choice, good luck tho. and wat age do u get ur drivers license there? i think that also depends on the severity of the situation, how close u r to getting it. good luck! u will lern from this mistake and hopefully never make it again!

those cameras dont flash and if those cameras are for stores you wont have anything happen but if those cameras are hooked to the streetlight then yea maybe and no it wouldnt flash
