well, always observe the posted speed limit and be aware of the flow of traffic around you. a couple seconds between you and the car infront of you is good, but even another car space of allowance wouldn't hurt. when in compromising weather conditions (snow, rain, etc) that limit your reaction time and vision, increase your space margins and decrease your speed.
happy driving

the rule of thumb is 2 seconds between the car in front of you. pick a point...count 1001-1002 if it is marginal then back off...always obey the speed limit and watch in your rear view mirror. Always expect the unexpected...you will be safe

I worship at the altar of the speed limit, using my almighty cruise control, in the number 1 lane. The v6 comes in handy when I need to let someone have some room.

Iam!!
With the flow of traffic, at least two car lenghts behind.

flow with the traffic. most of the time the speed is around 65mph but the rule is if traffic is slower than that then drive around that vice versa with faster. best not to drive too slow on the highway

on a highway the safe speed is 55 on a freeway is 65. 55 is a safe speed because highways have roads and private driveways crossing them.

This is your responsibility! It depends on your experience, ability to handle the vehicle, and other traffic. This is in additon to the Normal things like road conditon, weather and visibility. It may also depend on your vehicles "built in ability" to handle the road!
Obviously a Corvette will corner better in unusual conditions or rain,- (ice is "always a toss up"), - than a Ford falcon!

The posted speed limit is usually what the Motor vehicle "experts" consider to be safe in "normal" weather and road conditions! And it is possible that your "tired old Falcon" will want to shoot off the corners at the posted speed limit!!

The very safest speed is parked! However a lot of pedetsrians get run over too!

Depends on the car, weather conditions, tire and tire conditions, traffic, etc. Under normal conditions, 50 to 75 is safe. Any higher and you're going to arouse suspision, and any lower is dangerous because someone might bump into you if they don't see you.

Don't impede the flow of traffic.

It depends on what the driving conditions are.
Snow, sleet, hail, rain, etc.

General rule of thumb: go the speed limit, give or take 5 mph, depending on traffic. In bad visibility, go slower.

The distance of car lengths one should use varies with the speed.

Actually, I just got my license and the rule of thumb is you should be able to count to 4 from the car in front of you to you. So pick a spot and count 1-2-3-4 and if it works, your set. Or just go 70mph all the time if its 65, I think youll be fine there.

80mph
