I just got my permit and am scared out of my mind of driving. Any tips for me?

Practice in empty parking lots and rural roads before venturing out into heavy traffic. You should get comfortable with the feel of how the car drives before you introduce traffic to the equation. Once you're used to the feel of the car, practice 'scanning' with your eyes. Look as far ahead as you can at both sides of the road, then glance at your left mirror, look ahead, glance at the right mirror, glance at the rearview mirror, then back straight ahead. I call it "Situational Awareness". Always know where you're going and what is around you, in all directions, at all times. Don't let yourself get distracted by tuning a radio or answering a phone.
It's OK to be nervous, practice will make it better.....

I remember that, I was terrified too. Start out driving in empty parking lots. Once you get comfortable with all the basics, go out onto the road. Not a highway, not a windy back road, just a simple route that'll take you back to your house. The first time on the road is always the scariest, but as long as you're with an adult you know and trust and is going to help you, not scare or make fun of you, you'll do great. After a few drives, you'll actually want to try out new roads, but don't rush it. |

Have someone take you to an empty parking lot to practice in first. Once you're used to the car itself, it might be easier to work your way to driving on roads and/or around other cars. |

If you're scared of driving, stay off the main busy roads. Otherwise, practice in your neighborhood or in parking lots--with someone. |

Wonder why you are scared? If it is lack of confidence with the controls then drive around the back streets till you get better.
Driving is something to do only when you feel relaxed and in control. |

The main thing is to RELAX....start out on non-busy roads and practice start and stop and turns and such...Good Luck don't stress about it........ I am sure you'll do fine! :~) |

Breath deep and relax. If you're too scared of driving, you need to stay out from behind the wheel until you can deal with it. |
