School traffic?
|
my children attend primary school the traffic is shocking people park on the pavement cars do not give consideration to the young children crossing the road and do not let them cross
parents seem more concerned at droping their children off or picking them up and the drive away as quickly as possible to get where ever they are going
how wuld you sort this problem out if you had the power to make lasting changes ?

the police should enforce the traffic laws, it's what we pay a portion of our council tax for.If the parking restrictions were enforced and illegal parking stamped on every single day for that half hour in the morning and again at the end of the school day then there wouldn't be the problem there is. |

We have rules here . Children only cross with crossing guards at the end of the street . Cars dropping off kids must park only on the same side of the street that the school is or in the parking lot across the street . Then parents get out of their cars & walk their kids across before & after school .
But at the high school the parents & grand parents that pick up kids take off slow , but the kids having an unmaned cross walk in the middle of the street ,in frount of the school , dart out in frount of cars driven by other school kids almost getting hit & laughing about it .
I park there every day & see so many close calls . The police are in the parking lot , but should be near the cross walk .
I will be makeing a complaint today , before school lets out |

Its not always practical but I would suggest you film it one day and give the footage to the police.. evidence perhaps to encourage a visit from your traffic officer and a lecture on the dangers or equally insist they prosecute the offenders.. I would bring it up at a PTA meeting and demand action b4 a child gets injured or killed.. they'd take action then would'nt they. Not knowing the area or school you refer to it's hard to look at the situation and make suggestions.. What is it with parents these days have they all lost the plot can they not see the chaos they cause by this behaviour.. |

stop school runs, they crowd out the road, the parents of the children offer no consideration to other road users and they also for some reason think they can park anywhere they like because they are picking up there child. |

Yes, I agree, most people seem to think the zig-zag lines etc don't apply to them, after all they're "only dropping little Johnny off" etc.
Track down your local bobby (neighbourhood beat manager, I think they're called now) and get him/her to attend at the appropriate times. We did, he took names & addresses and threatened to "do" anyone who drove like that again. And he turned up frequently to drive the message home. |

You can't change people who are always in a hurry, but one thing I WOULD do is start aggressively enforcing the school zone speed limits. I was nearly rear ended by some idiot as I slowed down in a school zone one day. These people need a lesson in "obey the rules or pay the price" |

UK? Speak to the council - all schools in this neighbourhood have a 20 mph speed limit. Plus zig-zag markings (no stopping) directly outside the school and also zebra crossings to either side of the school premises. The zig-zag markings wont stop people parking, but it will deter some, ask the council to ensure that the parking attendant will be in the vicinity at dropping off/picking up time. I would also mention it to the school so they can tell parents off via the school newsletter. Its very dangerous behaviour, but people don't think and they don't stop until something makes them |

the school my child was at they were dropping off on both sides of the road, so the principal and teachers stood on the one side of the road and wouldnt let the kids be dropped off the one side of the road, and sent a memo stating there will be no more dropping on the one side, only in front of the school, so there was no more kids crossing morning traffic..... so a designated area worked here..... |

Have a traffic warden there every morning. Its funny how these parents park on double yellow or zig zag yellow lines, when they have actually been put there for their children's safety, and the traffic warden is nowhere to be seen. But you be 30 seconds late returning to your car at a parking meter and you've got a ticket!!!!
Many of these parents could actually walk to school with their kids if they weren't so lazy - and no, I understand that some have to go to work or live a way off. I mean those local, bone idle ones! |
