My friend recently got in a car accident, hes in Icu right now.. A semi hit them while they were entering a bypass.. he was the only one who survived. They said that not wearing his seatbelt saved his life, otherwise he would of been crushed, instead, not wearing his seatbelt he went behind the passenger's seat and didnt get crushed.. i don't understand like should i wear a seatbelt or not.. ?

What you may have misunderstood or they failed to tell you was. That accident was a freak accident for him to still be alive. He could have easily went the other way if he was hit from behind, or if another car hit them from behind. Wear your seat belt, because if they were to get hit from behind he would have been launched out of the window and not in the back seat. |

seat belts do save lives--its been proven- but if your in a gamblin mood- dont wear it and take the chance youll survive--itll keep you from going through the winshield or from getting thrown out the door and runover by you own car-happens all the time- dont like wearin em- but ive seen a lot of people who resembled chewed bubble gum who chose not to...... |

There was a car wreck here in Austin last night which was on the news this morning. The car wandered onto the shoulder, the driver over corrected, crossed the center lane and was hit by a truck. The driver and front seat passenger, wearing their seat belts, survived. The two rear seat passengers, who were not wearing belts were ejected and decapitated. That is a more normal occurrence for seat belt vs no seat belt. Surviving because you weren't wearing a seat belt is rare. Surviving because you were wearing a seat belt is very, very common. |

sorry to hear about your friend being injured but the law of averages are in favour of seatbelts being worn as the amount of injuries are greater in those that do not wear belts and your boyfriend was very lucky. |

A similar thing happened to a friend of mine. She would have been killed if she was wearing her seat belt, but was OK because she was not. The police and doctors told her that she should still always wear her belt though because the changes of that happening are very small. More times than not the seat belt will save your life. |

I do want to say that these things do happen and they are kind of wierd, but the best thing is to wear ur seat belt because things like that don't happen every day and it is safer to wear it thannot. |

most likely you will be thrown forward thru the winshield or into the steering wheel or sideways into the window. odds are that it is better to wear a seatbelt for every kind of accident not just in this case.
