Seat belts vs m.o.t fail or not? ?

My car is due a mot at the end of the month i have noticed the seat belts don't retract properly. Its working fine and wen i pull it hard it stops but when i undo it it doesn't go back to its normal place.
Would this fail in the m.o.t?? If so how could i fix it?

If i recall correctly they are a MOT requirement.

It might be worth a quiet chat witha freidnly mechanic to have a quick look before the MOT.

Technically it is a failure if "a retracting mechanism does not retract the webbing sufficiently to remove all the slack from the belt with the locking mechanism fastened and the seat unoccupied".

Most testers, though use a judicious bit of "manual assistance" and if that does the trick it's fine.

If the belt does not retract properly then that is not an automatic fail.
If they do not operate properly I.E. lock when tugged hard then that is a fail.

You can get a spray that lubricates the belt - works like magic.
