Service Engine Light On -- Due to O2 sensor, BIG DEAL?

my cars service engine light has been on for months now...they checked and said I need an O2 sensor after I just replaced a new filter...Is this a really big deal ? or something that I really need not just to get a sticker and pass inspection?

You wont pass emissions with a bad O2 sensor. Your car will run rich causing higher pollution levels and worse gas mileage. Just pay the $50-100 and get a new sensor. Its easy to replace yourself.

Its not a big deal.... until you go get your emissions tested. It's an automatic failure! Get it fixed before your next emission test.

You need to get it fixed to pass inspection. O2 sensor is not big deal, depending on the car, there are O2 sensors :1 in the engine compartment on the exhaust manifold and 1 on the catalytic converter. They are cheap the replace. I replaced one in my honda civic, did it myself and it cost me $78. Good luck

You will not pass Emissions with the light on. So, you will have to go to the dealer, spend $300 to find out WHICH O2 sensor is bad, and have it replaced.

Thanks to OBD-II (on all 1996 and newer cars) they cost more than on older cars.

It will be eventually. Fix it now it will be alot cheaper.

If the O2 sensor is bad yes it is a big deal because the O2 sensor controls the amount of gas that is needed and when it is not working you can have a rich running engine that will do a lot of damage to the catalytic converter and the engine in time...

Its not a big deal will cost around $70 to get one and usually its easy to install yourself...You will waste more gas without a good one and I suggest you change it.
