Shoes with wheels on them?

I keep seeing like these 7-12 year old girls rolling round streets everywhere on these shoes ... i saw one the other day lose dcontrol and fall into the road (luckily no cars) and one was in a shop (annoying the workers of the shop) and kept bumping into hings, knock ing down games.

Anyone else getting annoyed by these?

Don't blame the kids, blame the parents!
In my shop, I've photocopied directions to the local A&E hospital, which we hand out as necessary. People usually take the hint, if not we just wait for the 'scream / splat / WAAAAA!'

Whoever came up with the idea of shoes with wheels in them wants pushing off a cliff (prefferably wearing said shoes) as they are dangerous... mind you, the parents who let them buy the damn things want a slap too!

yes Heelies are one of the most dangerous crazes eva. they should of banned them like they did the first time they were out about 10 yrs ago! And of course its the 1 thing my 9 year old 'must have'. Not a chance xx

hanz
I think they are awful. What about all the fat kids just rolling around shopping malls instead of walking. Everyone will end up obese.

Robyn D
I HATE them...why let your children wear them to a supermarket?! And who thought they would be a good idea?

Lighten up, weren't you a kid once? okay in the shop was out of order, but in the street as long as they aren't robbing people or beating someone up or damaging property let them get on with it.

Hi T
I've seen them quite a few times, on other peoples kids, but I've never yet been annoyed by them. My kids use them some times but never in shops, and always with care, and not with out learning how at home first.

just a fad it will go away.

I see kids zipping around stores on these "heelys". I think they're a nuisance and wouldn't buy them for my kids. Fortunately, my youngest is 16, so I don't have to worry about them.

This years craze. Now that school is starting the schools are beginning to add rules banning them on campus. Eventually they will regulate them the same as they did skate boards unless the users regulate themselves.

i H8 these things, especially when your steering a difficult to handle trolley around your local supermarket and you are coming out of the top of an aisle and they come flying towards you on there silly shoes!

Also it is easy to fall of them and if a child falls in the road with a bus coming then theres trouble!

I can't stand those shoes. They are banned in my son's school.

SteverZ

vdv_desantnik

You could go out and get run over by a bus later today. Or get knocked off your bike by a car the driving in Britain is getting more like it is abroad with people on their mobile phones etc etc like any thing I think they are fine if used sensibly.

How about the chinese Gasoline powered skates", Cool or what?
BTW the wheeled shoes now sold as Heelys were first seen on an episode of CHIPS in the 70s. Really new?

Al
yes, they are incredibly dangerous!

Well I think it is a lot of the parents fault too, I think they should have a little bit more control over their kids. My daughter has them but when she has them on and we go to the store, she can use them but she has to stay by me, she is not allowed to take off running and skating down an isle. I personally think that they are a waste of money, I paid $90 for them 6 months ago and she is already tired of them, she told me that when she wears them with the wheel in they hurt her heel. They wheel comes out and they turn into regular shoes. So she mostly just wears them as regular shoes.

Think it`s terrible, we can blame the manufactures for making them and the parents for allowing kids of that age to wear them.....

I FOUND THIS AND IT IS GREAT...................

Sales of the shoes, introduced in 2000 and costing about $60 to $100 a pair, have topped 3 million in the United States. The craze is getting attention from school administrators who fear students could be injured.
Some schools in the Pittsburgh Public Schools have sent letters to parents telling them the shoes are not appropriate for school, spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said.

Some principals hold the shoes' wheels until the end of the day, she said.

"They wreak havoc on the floors, especially gymnasium floors," said Jim Cromie, communication specialist at Keystone Oaks School District, which has banned Heelys. "And they present a safety hazard, particularly on stairs."

Dr. Raymond Pitetti, an emergency room physician at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, said he was surprised any school would allow Heeleys because students could run into other people and be a nuisance.

Pitetti said he hasn't seen injuries from the use of Heelys, but they could cause kids to trip or fall.

"The potential is there," Pittetti said. "They can twist an ankle or break a wrist."

In Canada, the Canada Safety Council is recommending a ban on Heelys in all public buildings, malls, school hallways and playgrounds.

Penn-Trafford School District officials posted "No Heelys" signs in the high school hallways. Although none of the Westmoreland County district's schools have reported problems with the shoes, they are not permitted during school hours or during evening activities, administrative assistant Peggy DiNinno said.

Earlier this month, Jeannette School Board revised the district's dress code to exclude Heelys, citing safety concerns.

Dr. Richard King, principal at Jeannette McKee Elementary School, said the shoes seemed especially popular with older students, who regularly climb staircases to change classes.

"If you have a student stumble or fall," he said, there could be a domino effect. "We saw enough students using them that we thought we should address it."

Richard Stuempges, principal of Avalon Elementary School. said the shoes have become popular, especially in the past year.

Students are not prohibited from wearing the roller shoes at Avalon Elementary, though most students do not wear them to school, Stuempges said.

"That might affect safety, and that's what the concern with these shoes is," he said.

What kind of sad childhood did you have like. If there not sticking a knife in you, jumping on your head or drinking bottles of Bella on every street corner let them enjoy themselves, or are you going to be an a*se all you life.

Tigger is the best!
Oh yes, they are a pain most supermarkets have band them from the shops. One evening I was trying to do a shop & this young girl was wheeling around with two broken arms!
It just happend that they joined the same till as me, so I asked her mother what had happend " oh she lost control & broke her arms" so I said "so why is your daughter still using them, if she loses control she can't save herself" I got a mouthful " don't you know how much they cost £70.00 & she will get the wear out of them"
I would of thought your childs & anyone they come into contact with safty would be on my mind! So pleased my kids are not a bit interested
