a car accident feels like an act of violence, because it is a violent action. it came out of nowhere, it was unexpected, and your trust in the unknown has been violated. take a little time here and think out what you've gone through. unless the person that hit you did this on purpose, it WAS an accident. thankfully you and your friend were not hurt. (feel the best about this part of it) if indeed it was an accident, then the man who did this to you was not with intent, so please don't hate him, he made a mistake, as we all do. don't empower anybody to take away from you that which you don't want them to. if you and your friend are responsible drivers, don't be afraid to drive about as you need to....but keep in mind that we all need to be defensive drivers and be constantly aware of surrounding vehicles and anticipating what they might do. today i saw a gas tanker blow a red light, and if all around me hadn't been paying close attention, there could have been a bad ending. it's ok to be scared after an accident. use this as a tool to be a little paranoid about some of the fool drivers out there. (drunks, people with disreguard of others, road ragers, to name a few) you're a young driver, so take this as a life's learning experience, it will make you a better driver because of it. driving safely is a huge responsibility, and it's on all our shoulders. i'm sooo glad that you and your friend are safe and unhurt, i appreciate that you wrote this question, because i too, long ago it seems, was in your shoes, and felt the same way about an accident. hug your best friend, tell him/her you made it, and be the best defensive driver you can possibly be in the future. best of luck!! |

you may have post traumatic stress and it is normal after being in a serious car wreck or any traumatic situation where your life is endangered I would seek help from a professional (counselor, pastor) Thank God that you made it out alive Take care of yourself |

wow, i am sorry to hear about your car accident, but i am glad to hear that no one was hurt. i am 22 now , but when i was eighteen i got into a car accident. i was going 40mph on a sharp curve, it had just rained and i freaked myself out, i thought i was going too fast, so i went to slow down, but instead of tapping on the breaks lightly, i rammed the breaks, and the car flipped three times (rolled) and landed upside down in a ditch. it took firefighters over a half hour to get me out of the car. i was hanging upside down by my seat belt, i had glass in my hair, cuts , bruises, and whiplash. everyone at the scene was amazed, i really should have died that night but instead i walked away with minor injuries. had their been a passenger in the car they would have died, because the passenger side was completely crushed. when i first started driving i was cautious, but after the accident i was petrified. i never realized before how quickly a car could just crush. in an instant the car completely was a mess. i am still afraid to drive, and since then have not driven a car. i have been having more and more anxiety attacks while a passenger in a car... and it is years later. this does not happen for everyone, but i would recommend that you go into therapy for this, it is normal for you to be afraid, this was a traumatic experience. i wish you lots of luck, and will keep you in my thoughts. being afraid is nothing to be ashamed of, get help for it and things will get better :) |

it is normal, eleven years ago, I got into an accident also. long story. well I was scared also to get back in the drivers side, but if I did not, I would have to stay home, my husband did not drive. give it time, and just get back into the car. people drive crazy, just be careful, now you will be watching everyone around you and seeing the mistakes they make but don't do the samethings they do. I am real glad you both are ok. and no one got hurt. |

These things happen, but don't let it ruin your life. If you feel that you can not get into a car, talk to your parents about getting some counseling. That doesn't mean you are crazy either, it just means that you can use the help. The counselor will be able to help more than any of us on here could. |

For a moment, you should be scared. But it doesn't mean you will be scared for the rest of you life. Work out this fear little by little until you can move on. |

It's normal to feel that way after an accident. The next few times you drive in that area you'll replay the accident in your head again.
All I can say is that time heals all wounds. |

Sorry for that honey. I think the best thing to do to get rid of that fear is to go right back in a car or you'll be stuck with it for a long time and it's gonna get harder and harder. "get right back on the horse after falling from it" |

try not to drive a high traffic times, 5pm , lunch hour, and 7-8am, until you feel more comfortable driving
and yea its scary out there, just pay attention to all the other drivers, you will never know what they are going to do, but you can know what you will do if they are going to hit you, plan ahead and get some defensive driving courses |

the best thing you could've done was get right back in a car. that way you wouldn't feel that way. That's what most truck drivers do. They're so messy when they lay down that some ppl won't even drive a regular vehicle after wrecking one of those. My husband laid one down and got right back in it and now he's fine. If he would've listened to the company and took some time off then he'd have more time to think "Oh god what happened" so, get back in the car and go for a ride. Have someone else drive though for now just to make it safer for you incase you freak out. |
