New Year's Eve I'm driving on US 90 just west of Alpine, Texas. Speed limit on the highway most of the way has been 75 mph on a two-lane highway with passing lanes on hills.
Since I pretty much have the highway to myself and my car doesn't have cruise control I find the speed creeping up the speedometer dial and nearing 90 a few times.
Just west of Alpine I meet a familiar black and white car and the TDPS Trooper lights up his lights and pulls me over. I was going 78. Speed limit--unbeknownst to me--has dropped to 70. (I know--my bad.)
Trooper is a very nice guy. He doesn't threaten. We visit a while and he gives me a warning citation. Tells me to slow down so I might actually reach my destination.
Looks like I again have underestimated my PT Cruiser.
Has this ever happened to you?

Actually, I'm a very careful driver. I think my last speeding ticket was more than ten years ago and it was due more to inattention than a tendency to drive too fast.
The PT Cruiser I drive is harder to keep at the limit than my previous car because it is a smooth-driving and handling car at these higher speeds with less noise level than my previous car, an Isuzu Amigo. US 90 west of Del Rio is an excellent highway, engineered for higher speeds.
Since my PT Cruiser doesn't have cruise control, I depend on road feel and other traffic to manage my speed. Neither helped me that day. Road was good and there was no other traffic.
Also, El Paso and San Antonio are about 600 miles apart, and that is a long drive no matter how you cut it. I'd imagine my trooper was looking for drunks more than speeders, and I was sober and cooperative.
After the stop I tried to stay 5 mph under the limit all the way. It really wasn't that hard to do.

Speed limit in Saskatchewan is 110 kph = 70 mph. on the Trans Canada Highway.
Only thing is that there is never much traffic out here so I just drive at whatever speed feels comfortable at the moment. That usually ends up being around 85-90 mph. Heck; even if I screw up there is nothing to hit and if there are other cars I pass them very carefully before resuming my speed.
I find now, when I do the actual speed limit that I am more alert and attuned to the road conditions around me. It also feels like I am driving at a walking pace too.
I haven't been nicked by the coppers in over 25 years but when they do get me it's going to be expensive. |

I had a talk with my doctor a while back, he gave me his take on whats necessary for a long healthy life. The number one item was risk taking behavior, speeding is an un necessary risk, to you and others on the road. We then went onto diet, exercise, regular check ups, etc. |

NOT really the powers that be really like the higher speed it clears out some of the over population by shoooooooing them off this planet. :-) Keeps Kissinger from finding ways of Killing off a few million. I hate speeders WarrenD and tailgaters they endanger me as much as themselves so FOR ME slow down take in the present and Now and enjoy life. Don't spend it in a wheelchair or hurt someone else. We are such intelligent Beings and have more to do here then SPEED. You can get very DEEP at times in your questions, didn't take you for a SPEEDER. If he would have given you a ticket, Believe me you WOULD NOT HAVE THANKED HIM.< Funny you get a warning my Obama/Raced man that passed over would not have gotten a warning, you GET what I am saying.< So slow down and you will never have to ask this kind of ? I have gotten more speeding tickets on the main drag, right off my street than any other! I also am known for having a "lead foot"!
There are times when I actually prevented an accident by not hesitating or slowing down.
I guess it all boils down to being safer than sorry! :D |

You are a habitual speeder like I am. I have had over 45 tickets.
As long as you are not a danger to less talented drivers and can afford the tickets you should be OK. My best ground speed was 143 MPH on my Suzuki GS1100EZ. |

yes, sir--but not in Texas. I was doing 83 in a 25 zone, pippi stopped me, and i asked him to hurry up and write me ticket so i could get to marion, ky on time! pippi was a state trooper! I got a sermon--not a ticket! lol true story! |

You were very lucky not to get a ticket.... Ninety on Hills is not a good idea cause a tire problem or rock in the road and you may end up at the bottom of the hill... Nice Trooper... |
