Should I buy a car with manual transmission even though I don't know how to drive a stick?
Find answers to your legal question.

Should I buy a car with manual transmission even though I don't know how to drive a stick?

How long would it take me to learn to drive a stick shift? Would it be dumb to buy a stick while not having any idea of how to drive it? Would I be able to drive it home from the dealership never having driven a stick before? Manual transmission cars are usually $1,000 less then automatics, and I really hate the idea of my being unable to drive a manual transmission car being such a major factor in my car purchases.

YOU WON'T drive it home never haven driven one before. Get a friend take a couple of lessons and then decide.
Some people never get the knack; most are ok. Which can you least afford to be?

That would be up to you. If you are capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time, you can be taught to drive a stick in about 10 minutes' time. Personally, after more than 30 years of driving, I wouldn't own a stick, because I am tired of shifting all the time. It can be a hassle if you do a lot of driving in heavy traffic.

Some people get the hang of driving a stick shift alot easier than others. All it takes is practice, and try not to get frustrated, because it is really easy to do so. I would not buy one, if you don't know how to drive one. I personally love having manual transmissions, and I just bought an automatic and miss manual so much! Learn before you buy, so you can drive it home, and just to make sure that the $1,000 less is worth it to you! Good luck!

Well I would recommend that you learn to drive a stick before you make that kind of commitment to a car. What is the reason you are considering this car? If you have looked at a car in an automatic you may be happier in the long run. The extra $1000 is worth having the automatic, exspecially If you do a lot of city driving your knee will appreciate that you bought a automatic. I sell Chevy's, and I was working with you that would be my advice.

See if a friend would let you drive theirs. It not hard to learn if your willing to try. Go to a empty part of a big parking lot and practice before you try it on the road. Maybe the dealership would have a area you could practice in. Good Luck!

don't dare drive it home unless there are no stops and it's downhill all the way!

If it's the extra $1,000 on the sticker price that is making you consider getting a manual transmission, I would advise against it. Driving a stick is not for everyone, and it may take you a little longer to learn. Don't learn from your friends as if you kill their clutch while you learn, they may no longer be your friend as this has to be replaced. Also, consider this, if you ever want to sell your car at some later date, it's value would be worth more than a standard transmission.

It will take about 30 minutes to learn how to drive a stick shift. Practice before you purchase. You may not like it and it would be a drag to have a car that you don't like to drive.

I wouldnt let it effect your buying purchase , but dont expect to drive home from dealership , but shouldnt take more than a couple days to learn . some learn quicker than others.

I would not recommend buying a stick. At least with automatic, if you ever hurt your arm or leg, you can still drive. Do you ever eat, talk on the cell phone or play with your stereo while you drive? How do plan on changing gears at a moment's notice? Is most of your driving in stop and go city traffic? Again, a lot of gear changing. Think about how and where you do most of your driving before you buy.
