Should I let my daughter get into a car with a fairly new driver?
Find answers to your legal question.

Should I let my daughter get into a car with a fairly new driver?

Her friend is responsible and she does drive herself around daily, but she's only had her final license for a few months or so now. I'm worried and I know I should be able to "let go", but I can't help it.

No-the obvious danger there is that the other driver is still a woman, and women shouldn't be driving. They are a danger to the road.

Friendly Stranger..
I think you should go with your instincts on this one. You are her mother, and if you don't feel fully comfortable then, no your daughter should not be riding with a newly licensed driver. Teen drivers make more mistakes especially when they drive other teens around there is more potential for an accident. Here are stats to prove this point:

* Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers.
* 16 year-olds have higher crash rates than drivers of any other age.
* 16-year-olds are three times more likely to die in a motor vehicle crash than the average of all drivers.
* 3,490 drivers age 15-20 died in car crashes in 2006, up slightly from 2005.
* Drivers age 15-20 accounted for 12.9 percent of all the drivers involved in fatal crashes and 16 percent of all the drivers involved in police-reported crashes in 2006.

Based on these stats, I would say not to let your daughter be a passenger. It takes time for teens to fully develop, and putting your daughter in harms way would not be a good idea.

No..........I have said this before and I believe it.......

Most teens have know idea about life and responsibility...all that they are concerned with is getting a drivers license but are still lacking the maturity of truly understanding what 2 tons of steel can do...

Yes. As difficult as it is you have to let her grow up. There's lots of worry ahead. My college age son rode to San Diego, CA with someone we'd never met over spring break, it's about 1000 miles from his school. It was one of the worst days for me, I worried the entire time but he got there just fine and had a great time. He flew home.....

It's tough but you can't shelter them. Good luck!

let go.. nothing is for sure in life. plus if you dont, she will still do it without you knowing.

The new driver will eventually get in a wreck, statistics dont lie. But an exprience driver today is going to get an a wreck also.
So your crapped either way. Let her go and do her thing. Both accidents you cant prevent.

Idk I'm sorry but if you should test her first ride in the car and let her ride it see how experience she is, be like a cop n scope her.

No!!!!

Here in California, a newly licensed teenager can't drive with another teen in the car for one year because of the distraction factor. One extra person in the car increases the chances of having an accident by something like 6 times.

Let her friend get more experience driving by herself. Driving is the number one (#1) killer of teenagers / new drivers in this country and has been for over 40 years.

Why would you risk your daughter's life with statistics like that?

"Let Go" when the risk to your daughter is lower otherwise you may be in a position to "let go" in a different venue (I'm sorry to be so blunt).
