Should I replace weather-damaged car tires?

Should I replace weather-damaged car tires?

My car's tires have fine cracking caused by UV and other weathering. They are relatively new (2002) Michelins and there is still a lot of life left on the treads. Is this dangerous? Should I replace the tires?

From the moment a tire gets manufactured it is tiring- hence the word tire. It is very common to see this cracking (aka "dry rot") in tires that are 4+ years old especially if your vehicle is keft outside in the weather all of the time. It is dangerous if you are going to be driving alot on the highway especially in hot summer conditions, however if you mainly do alot of city driving it would be ok for you to run them for a while longer.

I would replace them when you can afford it. If it was a major problem your computer would probably have a traction warning though.

yes get them off ur car,my best freind was injured that way.

Contact your nearest Michelin dealership. You should be able to get a little help on a new set depending upon how much tread life is left on your tires. Even if there is no factory warranty your Michelin dealership will most likely help you out to keep you as a customer.

they will be fine, however recall said that you should not rotate your tires, that is false. To get even tire wear, it is recomended that you rotate your tires, ask anyplace that sells tires.

I would say that depending on the size of the cracks you should be fine. Make sure you dont over inflate being that would cause cracks to get bigger. If cracks are as small as a coin no biggie if bigger than the coin ( thick wise ) you may need them replaced

No you should run your tires to the point where they fall off your car. Don't ever rotate them either!

I would call the dealership or tire manufacturer. always rely on the experts.

Your tires are 4 years old (not new). How much mileage do you have on them? Are they still under warrantee? Tires normally handle a lot of abuse and adverse weather conditions.
