I see far, far more young people driving badly to be honest.
They should make the driving test harder & more expensive, include night & poor weather driving & there should be regular retests which would also weed out any younger or elderly drivers that shouldn't be on the road. |

Yes, just like people who are arrested are innocent till proven guilty, seniors should continue to drive till they are proven to be a threat to themselves and others.
I live in SE Florida where there are huge numbers of retired folks and while some are slow to react, very few are reckless like younger drivers who speed or change lanes without a glance in the rear view mirror (which are there for reasons other than applying lipstick). |

Yes, because most of them are the safest drivers on the road, they have had a lot more experience. |

YES. I am over 70, I have been driving cars for 50 years. and I have never been in an accident in my life! I drive a 4.3l Chevy Blazer, and I tow a four birth caravan. My family trust me to take my grandchildren on caravanning holidays, so that says a lot! I think the driving standards of people in general is not what it used to be. I don't think there are many drivers that use defensive driving techniques, or read the road and anticipate what could happen watching other drivers in the near and distant vicinity. |

You ain't seen nothin' yet. In 20 years from now, only old people will be able to afford to drive. |

Anyone who is unable to drive safely for any reason should not drive.
Anyone who is able to drive safely and is not disqualified for some other reason (such as having received too many tickets) should be allowed to drive regardless of how old they are. |

I am now 58. I am a much more responsible driver than I ever was at age 25 and I am also a more qualified driver than I was then. And for anyone to insinuate otherwise would be an insult considering all the various driving courses that I have attended over the years. These courses have included a variety of skid schools, advanced defencive driving and racing schools.
In my possession I currently have a 1958 Jaguar XK150, a street rodded 1965 Chevy p/up, and a 1968 BSA motorcycle. And I just sold my highly modified 1965 MGB roadster. These are all driven on a regular basis and I don't mean a quiet Sunday drive through the park. And I have the garage bills to prove it.
My driving record does not have a single infraction on it for the past 30 years and I recently passed a school bus driving and safety course.
I would be only too happy to take on any younger driver in the vehicle of his choice on a closed course. And I can guarantee you that I will not be the one spinning arsse backwards off the course and if you do beat me it will only be because I pushed you across the finish line with my front bumper.
I test my personal limits and those of my machinery every time I go for a drive. The day that I can't negotiate that curve at the bottom of the hill at 85 MPH will be the day that I personally burn my license. |

If they are capable of driving then why not. My grandad was still driving at 94. |

It's a bit of a mixed answer......
Yes they should drive because they have more experience on the road than most.
But on the other hand no they should not, because along with age comes slower reflex actions, or reaction times. In other words if someone was to pull out infront of, or slam on brakes infront of an old person they could end up reacting too slow and having an accident. |

Yes they should but the real question is should young drivers drive......
The real answer to your question is that we all need to retake our driving test every couple of years just to keep all of us on our toes... |

Drivers under 25 pay a premium on their insurance as statistics show them to be involved in more accidents than people over that age. There are no such penalties imposed on older drivers. Perhaps that should tell you something. |

I think most youngsters need more lessons. |

SOME should have their keys pulled. Did that with my OWN father. OTHERS (like me for instance) can drive better than 90% of the rest of you young, impatient, speeders that race from one red light to the next, slamming on the brakes at the last possible moment. |

Should young people drive? Some shouldn't in both cases. In my opinion Old people should be tested yearly, start around 70-75. Give them a vision test and make sure they can still obey the rules of the road. Then start waiting until 18-20 to allow the person to get their license. |

Where the Isla meets the Tay.

You see some old people driving who should not be.They are a danger to other road users, some are just not capable.
A mandatory test for people over 75 should be introduced. |

Only if they HAVE to ;)
Seriously.. yes they should have the oppertunity only if they are tested regularly.. and pass !!! |

Hi,
As per Indian Driving Rules, your DL (driving license) validity will reduce as per your age going to increase.
WHY:-
1. Due to eye side factor, as more u r getting older, eye side going 2 weak.
2. Suddenly heart attack during the driving.
3. Driving slow where other cars are affected.
4. Ignoring the rules sometime.
5. Turning your car without proper left/right indicator.
If some younger one is sitting then COOL.
Bye & Tc

of course old people should be alowed to drive providing they are safe and capable of doing so.
once a driver gets to 45 they should be subject to the same conditions as hgv drivers and have to undergo a medical.
normally the worst roadusers are the ones who tell you how many years they have driven accident free and those who tell you all the courses they have been on. |
