Should a passenger airbag deploy if no one was in the car seat?

Yes, it's standard for both the airbags to go off. Unless you manually turn the passenger airbag off.

Some Air Bag systems are what is known as "smart" systems, mostly found on newer models. they sense if a passenger is in the passenger front seat. other systems are passive, they do not have passenger front seat sensor. therefor the passive system will go off on any impact to the front of vehicle. I don't know about the Nissan system, but I would guess it is a passive system.

I have an '01 Altima. When My son ran into a hillside to avoid a deer, the passenger side airbag deployed. That was the side that hit the hill. The driver side did not deploy.

ahhhh that is bad and u should contact the dealership there r sensors on all sides of the vehicle and when the impact occurs all airbags driver,passenger,and side all should deploy might be a defect u should tell em might save a few lives Hope This Helps

In any car before 05, both air bags will go off.

THIS IS NEWS TO ME.....I HAD THE UNDERSTANDING THAT IF THE SEAT BELT WAS OR WASNT USED IT SHOULD NOT DEPLOY ON A AMERICAN CAR....BUT I SEEN IN A TOYOTA THAT THERE IS A PLACE CENTER OF THE GEAR SHIFT....U USE THE KEY TO TURN AIR BAG ON OR OFF FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE ....LOOK IN THAT CAR, I'D SAY ITS THE SAME SET UP.....SEE IF ITS TURNED ON....THAT SHOULD TELL U, I HOPE THIS HELPED....AND YOUR STEP SON WILL BE OK......

yes all of them are designed to deploy,,even if there isn't anyone in the seat,its supposed to be a safety feature to keep the driver in position,,in the case of a bad collision,,it sounds like it might have saved his life,,but yes there designed to do this,,i own a repair shop,,and i get the bad job of re-installing these after an accident,,but it functioned as it should have,,good luck,,i hope your son is OK.

Hmm I have a 05 Altima and there is a sensor in front that tells me that the airbag is off when no one is sitting there.

the airbags deploy upon impact regaurdless if anyone is in the car or not if the bags are turned on.you would have to have a sensor to pick up a person sitting in the car. this may be possible one day. on most of today's cars there is a on/off switch for the airbags. so YES to your question.

I have a 05' ford focus hit a center diver and only the drivers airbag deployed, no one was in the passener seat. Should both of went off? or because only the driver was in the car. would like to have some one answer these questions. Would there be any injury to the driver? Had no marks at all nothing. Was maybe doing 30- 35 mph hit the curb jumped and took out a sign post about 3 inches round. Would the driver have any resadue on there clothes? Would there be any way to tell who was driving the car?
