Should it be legal or illegal to drive while talking on the cell phone?

illegal; too many women (and men, i suppose) try to multitask by driving and talking on the phone at the same time. the result is worse driving than they already have, which leads to the frustration and anger of other drivers who are smart enough not to talk on the phone while they drive.

I think it should be illegal because it distracts the drivers. A lot of people think blue tooths are good because you have both hands on the wheel. That is not true. It is safer to drive with one hand not being on a cell phone than driving with two hands and being on the cell phone. It's people's minds that gets distracted, not there hands.

I think it's perfectly fair for driving while on a cell phone to be illegal. In my opinion, driving drunk to a certain extent is safter than driving while on a cell phone because when people are drunk, they try there best to drive perfectly so they won't get pulled over. When people are on a cell phone, they get distracted. I never talk on a cell phone when I'm driving.

I think the current law is sufficent if you have handsfree then its fine. its the same as listening to the radio or such in that sense.

In the UK it IS illegal to use a hand held cellphone while driving.

In the UK, it is ILLEGAL to use a mobile phone whilst driving. 3/6 points on licence and a hefty fine.

I couldn't agree more with it. The amount of innocent people killed by motorists using a mobile...

edit: for lmfao!, pull over in a safe place and make/receive the phone call.

It's indefensible. I don't understand why women (mostly) and womanly men feel the need to talk on the cell phone while driving. I was in a terrible accident where a woman almost killed me because she was yapping her way through a red light.

This is a really old subject on Yahoo answers but I've never seen one person deffend talking on the cell phone while driving. Not one! If it's indeed indefensible why do people still do it?

I don't see why talking on the cell phone is any different than listening to a book on tape or a good song. Why should the government tell us when we can and cannot talk on a cell phone?

There are many distractions in vehicles including other passengers. There are many that feel they have to look at the passengers when speaking to them - clearly a dangerous and stupid thing when driving. Great when you are not driving.

Yes many countries make it illegal to talk on a cell phone and drive, yet there is no law against smoking while driving - which is even more distracting. How many people have dropped ashes or lost partial night vision while lighting up?

Make it illegal - but make other things illegal also if you want to enforce the law in a fair manner.
