Should old people be able to drive?

What are your opinons on old people driving cause some old guy hit my moms car cause he was listening to the radio?Who crashes a car on the freeway while lisening to the radio?
Additional Details
Really cause that is definatly not the first time my family was nearly killed by a hag behind the wheel thats like the 14th time this year and they have enought mobilitly with there scooters.I almost got run over by one at walmart when I was 5.

I'm sure a lot of people crash while listening to the radio, that's a stupid kwestshun.

But yeah I totally agree with you anyone over 29 should be forced to cut up there license.

On a more serious note I think you have a point. I had a family friend that died on motorcycle when an 88year old man failed to yield on an unprotected left turn and killed our friend instantly.

Statistically most accidents are caused by those under 25, not those over 65.

My father in law had a valid license at 95 and was a pretty decent driver. No tickets, no accidents.

I think anyone who has a pocket full of tickets and accidents should not be allowed to drive regardless of their age.

You're going to condemn older drivers because one was distracted and got into an accident?

Seniors need the mobility and independence that driving allows. While I agree they should be given annual driving tests, there should not be any kind of age cut off for the driving privilege.

I do agree or allow them to drive if they are too old or not; but If they have bad eyes then no.
That all I can answer it.

We test EVERYONE, every 5 years.

You are more likely to be hit by a young person using a mobile or mp3 player than an old and experienced driver.
Are your sure your Mom didn't cut him off with no room to stop?

I think they should have to take a test every year but if they pass they should be allowed to continue driving. This guy got distracted by the radio but that could happen to anyone. What about all the people that use the phone while driving. Or put on makeup. It's not just senior drivers. My concern with them is their response time is surly slowed down due to age related aches and pains.

What ever rules you want to put on old people should also be on drivers under 25. They get distracted also and are more dangerous because they feel they can drive fast all the time

Yes........as long as they are of sound mind and judgment and I believe that everyone should take an annual driving test just to keep up and be evaluated.

Remember that most accidents are caused by people that are between 15 to 21 years of age that are distracted..

wow 14 time in a year you almost got hit. I haven't had that many close calls in 50+ years of driving. I think I know where the problem is and it is not the other drivers it is YOU..............

Well, i believe that at a certain age, around 70s or 80s, they should be given a test, and if the instructor sees that they are unfit to drive, they should not be able to drive.

personally, i was in the car with my 78 year old grandmother, and that was a.... frightening experience. she wasnt terrible, but she ran 2 stop signs, a red light, and almost hit another car. im not sure if its just me, but i think the DMV needs to take another look into this.

It's a very tough call on that one.

One the one hand....you can have an older driver who can drive better than a lot of the youth today.

On the other hand....some older drivers have health issues that they don't..or won't admit to themselves...so...they keep driving.

I guess...personal opinion..for each older driver in question....depends on the older drivers willingness to admit to themselves that they no longer have what it takes to maintain a safe level of driving ability...BUT..(and that's a big but)....there is a very wide margin of older drivers....(mostly men)...who will never admit that they can no longer drive safely....so...a potential accident could be up and coming.

Yes!..I believe....maybe there should..in fact...be an age limit on how frequently an older driver gets tested...so..that way...they won't be a danger to themselves or others on the roadways.

It's a tough call...because...some 20 year old's can't drive worth a damn.....but...some 80 year old's can still drive pretty well.

I suppose my opinion on this..... is kind of split either way.
