I have gray hair and the four times I have almost been knocked off my bike was because of the 'driving' standard of young black females, so I think young black females shouldn't be allowed to drive near motorbikes ridden by middle aged ladies with gray hair, (under the age of 65). |

Maybe you drive with attitude and lack of patience. You sound like one of those people who would like their parents to work to 65, then just die and leave their money behind because they aren't good for anything anymore. I have never been tailgated by a senior in the fog, or driving rain, or in driving snow. I have never had to dodge a senior flooring it through a red light. I have never had a senior run into me while rushing to beat somebody else to a parking spot. I have never had a senior almost hit me because he couldn't wait his turn at a 4-way stop. But I have had younger drivers do all those things. There is a reason most seniors pay less for insurance. There is a reason most people under 21 pay more for insurance. It's all in the historical accident and claims records. |

But most accidents are caused by males aged between 18 and 25, then by drunks, and then by the over 65's. So all the above should be retested every year. |

Challenge for you. I am 69 and will take you on re driving on the road and on the track. Loser has their licence taken away for the rest of their life. |

thats funny...but yeah, everyone should have the right to drive as long as they follow the rules- but I have a flash for you...it's not just older people-I was ran off the road by a carload of high school kids that came from out of nowhere-they passed me at a wickedly rapid speed and were all over the road. I was actually afraid for the passengers as well as everyone else on the road... |

YES THEY SHOULD AS LONG AS THEY PASS THE SAME EXAMS THAT ALL THE REST OF US DO BUT.....
Did you know that 15 to 20 year-old drivers are the highest risk group for a fatal crash? Seventy percent of fatalities in this age group involve the use of alcohol. Night driving statistics are even worse:
Young drivers average about 20 percent of their driving at night – yet they account for more than 50% of all nighttime crash fatalities!
Of that 50+ percent, 21% of those involved were intoxicated by alcohol.
DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. |

everyone should be retested every 3-5 years , because the standard of driving is just appaling. |

Here we go again....dissing on older people. You guys think that some day you'll be old too? Get real. I hope you live a long healthy life so that you get old and are forced to deal with young people the way older people today have to deal with your punk a**! |

yes there are stuipid people of all ages. I think anyone who judges milions based on single incident ( that would be you)

Wait till you are 65 then answer the question, the question is how often do people drive, the same could be said about a 30 year old who only drives now and again. How any middle lane hoggers are over 65? or perhaps you don't drive on motorways. |

from the day anyone passes the driving test i think you should have to take the test again every ten years ,i was driving along a winding country road today doing the speed limit of 40 mph and a woman of about 35 came up behind me slammed on her brakes just missing the rear of my car i went around a bend in the road and had to brake as a car was approaching in opposite direction and a car was parked on my side ,again this woman nearly hit me ,good job i am a good driver ,can you just imagine what carnage she would have caused if i hadn't slowed her down ,or was it when she saw my roof sign displaying l plates did she try to frighten a learner driver ,fortunatly i had just dropped my disabled pupil off ,yes i am a driving instructor .i think that anyone who is not fit to drive should be taken off the road not just old people but some youngsters |

You think they should be banned all because of that 1 incident?
All age groups do stupid things that I have witnessed. |

Tina, STOP right there..you said Volvo!! It's not that the woman is old, it's because she has the Volvo attitude and is obviously inconsiderate like all the rest of Volvo drivers. . |

I fully understand what your saying. In fact I have often thought about this. And really we have bad drivers at all ages. Often people don't even know the current laws. I think all drivers should have to re-test every 4-5 years. Written and driving.

yes but everyone should be retested at regular intervals and anyone over 70 should be reassessed every year AND have medical approval to drive.
GP's do have the ability to have a persons license revoked on medical grounds but unfortunately precious few of them excercise that right.
I suggest that anyone over 65 that continues to pass a re-assessment should be stopped from driving if they are found to cause an accident through age related loss of ability or judgement.
Then again... why limit it? the OAP that shunts my car at 15 mph is preferred to the 18 year old, in a car too powerful for them to handle, acting like a complete ar e for their mates . raise the minimum age for sitting the test until the young hotheads have matured a bit and think before they act! |

Only if they have a licence to drive and their vehicle is taxed and insured.
I suspect that you need to remember that the vehicle in front is generally deemed to be in the right if there is a shunt from behind.
Perhaps you just have a problem with Volvo drivers, or are you assuming that all drivers with grey hair are ove 65.
I suggest that no one under the age of 25 should be allowed to drive. The benefits could be enormous. |

it is more likey that 65s are driving at the correct speed with in the law ,they dont have to rush around like the rest of us and they take more time , how many grandparents now look after the grandchildren when the parents are at work the roads are foreveryone what ever your age |

Age has nothing to do with bad driving.
Going by some of the idiotic and irresponsible things I've seen drivers of all ages and gender do, it may be a good idea to have drivers MOT'd along with their cars. |
|

SnoddersB
 |
There are also many younger people who should not be allowed on the road. I think that you were just unlucky as I am often cut up by boy and girl racers when driving my car. Quite often they think that the safety gap that I leave between my vehicle and the next is just for their use. Get a life and drive defensively. |

Everything I've seen an old driver do, I've seen a young driver do. So age has nothing to do with it. |

Yes, if they can demonstrate they have ability and reasonable skill. They should be tested every two years after 65. |

to the people whom say Everyone being retested.
A restest doesnt make you a good driver,my friends nephew has just passed a few weeks ago and now on his second car and 5 crash and thats after just passing.
Drivers drive stupid,it would be like the speed camera situation while you go past the camera your the safest driver in the world after your a mad person.
It would be the same test day miss daisy will be in the back then you pass and leave at 90mph.
To the answer yes if medical reason require the older person to be retested. |
|

Chris
|
Take a look at the facts, young drivers are responsible for most accidents.
In any case old drivers are disqualified from driving if they have a medical problem which must be declared on the licence renewal.
I suggest you take your time and stop driving so close behind other vehicles |

I hope you are 64 and 364 days old ! It was a woman driving the Volvo, yes ? Well, at any ages women do the most stupid things at the wheel. So what's your question again ? |
