Should people stop using cars ?

I live 50 miles from the nearest civilization and I travel for business. I also drive a school bus 80-90 miles each school day. I will gladly give up my gas guzzler(s) when someone comes up with an electric car that will

- carry six adults
- carry a weeks worth of groceries
- haul a 1500 pound payload
- pull a 6000 pound trailer
- handle a snow plow
- have a 4x4 drive system
- go 500 miles between recharges
- haul 10 bales of hay
- carry 35-40 students to school in -35F to -45F weather.

Your living in a dream world. WAKE UP!

Contrary to popular belief, automobiles actually reduced pollution. Per passenger mile traveled, horses did far more damage to the environment. Entire cities smelled like clogged toilets, because of all the manure in the streets.

You can stop if you like Nitt, but me, no way mate. I live in a tiny rural village with no access to public transport, 3 miles to nearest shop, 20 miles to work. You do the decent thing, i will stick with my car thanks.

Well, if they turned around and allowed us horses in the streets again, I supppose it may work, but I doubt very much it will ever happen!! :-)

I will not be giving up my car for anything. I lead a busy life and have no time to wait for a bus, train or to pay for a cab oh and i also fly when i go on holiday and im not giving them up either.

Why? we're in the 21st centuary, why should we go back to horse and cart, or god forbind, one of those things that dont pay road tax!!! (push Bike)

If global warming exists at all, and if it is man made, then stopping the use of private cars will make about 0.1% difference.
A far better idea would be to shut down all the power stations, stop eating beef and drinking milk, ban air travel and get God to stop setting off all these pesky volcanoes.
That should do it!

No NO NO. Global warming is an unproven theory not agreed with by all climatologists.
What does seem agreed though is that we will be restricted and taxed by politicians who see the THEORY as a way to do that. in olden times they used the fear of God to control the proletariat but since that stopped working they have jumped on this bandwagon instead.
The earth warming up is just as likely to be us passing through a natural warming cycle.
If something happens in the future, as it will sometime, like a meteor hitting earth or a large volcanic eruption a bit of warming that we are experiencing now will pale into insignificance.
Round here we just had the coldest winter in 18 years!
