no. seatbelts should be elective.
It's a great money generator for villages and cities. |

I'm not really into sending people to jail for not putting seatbelts on their children, however I do think they need to attend parenting classes and be fined heavily for every subsequent offence. I have been on the scene of quite a few accidents involving children who have died needlessly because their parents could not be bothered to put seatbelts correctly on them. It is horrific and traumatic. I like the suggestion earlier of making these parents see some of the photos of accident scenes involving children who's lives could have been saved by simply buckling up.
Try this website, it has some statistics for you. To the effect that 80% of child deaths in auto accidents could have been prevented. |

Can't put people in jail for not using seat belts on their kids. There are fines in place for seat belt safety. Can you imagine how much more over crowded our jails would be if they booked everyone that didn't strap their kids in....??? Sad issue. |

Why they should go to jail.
Child endangerment, would be the only argument you could give, and it's not really a good one.
This is one of those laws that screws everyone.
Say if you didn't know your kid had a seat belt on or not, how would you know when you are supposed to be keeping your eyes on the road.
What if the kid doesn't want to wear one.
I think this is one of those laws the Government should stay away from.
Leave it up to the insurance companies to punish them with higher rates.
Why should people lose their jobs and everything else, because of a situation we have no control over. |

it cost about $40,000 per year to keep someone in jail. do you really want to put everyone in jail for every minor offense. a fine should work< |

Yes. Child restraint use is one of the better laws that's been passed. I would argue for a fine and a number of weekends in jail, as is required for some probationers. Perhaps being without the kid for a few weekends would make them think about what it would be like to be without him permanently. |

I dont think they should go to jail but i think they should get a ticket that cost a pretty penny(and expensive ticket). And driving safety classes, pending. |

not jail on the first like 2 offenses but a fine that gets larger each time
remember jail would take the child from the parents that could just be having a off day |

There are too many people in jail already, so a very heavy fine would make better sense instead. |

ya and some people i know had to watch these videos of all these dead kids from car accidents
i say they had it coming
but on the other hand, i did enjoy stretching out and taking naps on the back bench seat of my dad's Nova back in the 1970's lol |

Jail may be difficult since the person is most likely a parent. A large fine does seem suitable though. It is the law that children wear a seat belt in most states, if not all. |

Not sure about jail but they should be fine. Works just as well.

No, they have their children taken away. Then let them drive around and see all the other parents with their kids buckled in driving around happy. |

Yes they should. In California, you're charged 300 dollars if you have kids in the car but YOU don't have a seat belt on even if they do. I imagine its a high price to pay if the kids don't have their seat belts on. |

They should really understand the risk of not wearing one, you see what they do to adults that don't wear just imagine |

Well someone will have to care for the children while they are in jail. No, I think there should be some stiff penalties. I see kids all the time in mothers arms and it makes me so angry.
A reason they should go to jail is all the children that are involved in small accidents that loose their lives because they simply were not in a child seat. The excuse they cannot afford a child seat is not good either since there are a lot of programs that offer free car seats. |

I drive a 1960 Chevy so I don't have to have seat belts. So no jail. |

i believe for kids 8 and under they should have to be allowed to wear a seat belt
and if there shorter then 4 foot they have to sit in a booster seat w/ seat belt till there a certain weight
parents need to learn common sense
if they dont learn from jail send there but to bootcamp!!
i mean seatbelt in the back seat
always wear a seat belt in the front seat though |

No... But they should be forced to watch 3 episodes of Lawrence Welk back to back. |

Yes your right they should go to jail,so should the wardens
who transport the prisoners who are not wearing seatbelts |

Jail is harsh, but I mean it's like child neglect, but there's a big difference if your kid is 4 opposed to twelve. If the kid can't buckle it themsleves, its like child endangerment if you don't put it on em. |
|

vanny

Yes they do. It is not that hard to put a seat belt on, and seat belts have saved count less lives. There is no reason not to wear one.
hope this helps:) |
