I've been in states where driving should be illegal. In LA people are going so fast a cell phone makes as much difference as a bug hitting the windshield. |

I think that talking on a hand-set while driving should be illegal. But if you have handsfree technology and are using it, then that should be legal. Afterall, using a headset isn't much different than talking to your buddy riding shotgun. Note: This is actually a regulation in the Air Force.

Almost all phones have speaker phone or hands free talking. I feel hands free should be enforced. I do not have a problem with people talking while interstate driving, but when driving in a city, there are too many other distractions lane changing, etc. Really, how often is the conversation really that important? |

It wouldn't be fair to the people who can drive responsible with a cell phone..But for those who get distracted by it easily...They could use their common sense? o.O |

I think they ought to make them illegal period. They have gone way to far with this toy, that's all they are really. We lived for years without the need to have a phone stuck in our ear for hours, and life was better, we had person to person in person conversations. And kids went to school and never had to use a phone unless it was an emergency. You want to talk about a drain on our economy along with all the extra energy they consume and the satellites polluting our atmosphere, and all this for a mere $100.00 a month. I remember when they only charged .03 a minute for a phone call, why should they cost more now? They don't even have lines to maintain, they're a bigger rip off than ENRON |

Anyone who says that it shoud not be illegal is an idiot and needs to have their license permanently revoked. The fact is that IS illegal in almost every state, and is called a "distracted driving" ticket. It includes everything from applying makeup to eating and drinking. In New York it is a $500 ticket for the first offense and 4 points on your license. A second offense within three years gets you a one year suspension, and possible jail time.
It is just plain irresponsible, and stupid to talk on your cell phone and drive at the same time. |
