No, but I do believe the driving tests should be more difficult and the driving instructors should be watching closely for driver maturity before rubber stamping the test. I also believe the laws for cell phone use while driving (texting while driving has become a major problem) should be strictly enforced and the fines and penalties be severe, for any age group. This should be treated as severely as a DUI.

Yes it should.

NOVEMBER 2008

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15- to 20-year olds.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 3,490 drivers in this age group died in motor vehicle crashes in 2006 and an additional 272,000 were injured.

Drivers age 15- to 20-years old accounted for 12.9 percent of all the drivers involved in fatal crashes and 16 percent of all the drivers involved in police-reported crashes.

Twenty-five percent of teen drivers killed were intoxicated. In 2006 (latest data available) crashes involving 15 to 17 year olds cost more than $34 billion nationwide, in medical costs, property damage and other costs, according to an AAA analysis.

Among licensed drivers, young people between the ages of 15 and 20 have the highest rate of fatal crashes relative to other age groups, including the elderly.

In fact, the risk of being involved in a fatal crash for teens is three times greater than for drivers age 65 to 69.

Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens.

Yes. There are too many teenagers causing accidents and not taking them seriously.

I was rear ended by a teenager who had 5 of his friends in his mom's minivan. While we were waiting for the police to come, the kid and his friends were riding their skateboards around the accident scene.

yes because too many immature kids r Driving drunk and getting into accidents and doing unnecessary stuff they have to have enough responsibility and be serious about it and not joke around

No, if the driving age was raised to 18, 16-year-olds would drive without any education or license, I know I would. It would be ridiculous to increase the age to 18.

No I do not. Driving at age 16 with the restrictions that the government already give to these teens (like driving within a certain time period or only having so many people in the car) is sufficient enough to help teen become responsible driver by age 18, when mastering driving skill is essential to pursue endeavors such as college or some job. Plus, kids at age 16 usually have a job so having a car is helpful here as as well!

No!
In some places like Nebraska school buses are not provided for anyone going to high school. There is no public transportation for most of these students.
So how could they get to school and home with out a drivers license with out increasing the usage of gasoline by the parents to drop them off at school?
We need to teach more responsibility at a younger age. It is my opinion that a special DL should be required for a bicycle that is rode on public roads. That way maybe car drivers would better understand the rules of the road.

No, because it's better if you practice early so by that age, you've had experience on the road so you know what to expect and drive more wiser.
