Should the government make make people put seat belts on?

People should be able to make their own decision on most things, but we need some rules, and this is one of the most important, as people who ride unrestrained have a higher chance of dying in a crash, and that doesn't only affect the driver. If passengers don't restrain themselves, they can kill people who are, then you have emergency personel who have to attend accidents, and find people ejected from cars, or crushed under seats etc in cars, so it affects the, which affects their families, and there's the families of those who died by not restraining themselves. People should make their choice on most things, but we need rules

of course people should wear sheat belts but i think that the goverment controlling people to wear seatbelts is a good idea because it is saving their lives and that as a law is a good thing!

Yes, but not because of its life saving qualities. I'm a firm believer in Darwinian philosophy, culling the herd, all that jazz. It should be law simply because if it weren't law, the public would bear the brunt of the massive costs associated with treating people in accidents that weren't wearing one. Insurance costs would skyrocket, the courts would become bogged down with lawsuits, etc.

This goes hand in hand with the bikers wearing helmets debate. Should the government mandate whether we use survival tools or not. It's a matter of survival of the fittest. You know what you need to do to protect yourself and whether you choose to do it is up to you, ultimately. The law is in place to ensure that more people use them than not. If there is a consequence, it is more likely that people will comply. Will you feel your rights have been infringed upon when your life is spared by the constraint of a seatbelt?

People should wear their seat belts, but it's more important that they just pay attention to the other laws of driving to avoid a wreck in the first place!

NO! Who are you people that think it is? It's unconstitutional, it's the same as telling someone they have to wear a white shirt when they are driving. It goes on and on about cell phones, drinking, what do you care if I'm naked and happy in my car as long as I'm a good driver and obeying the "rules of the road" period! It's one thing to make safety awareness, but it's another to make responsible people suffer due to the common ignorant person that can't drive and talk or master the art of driving without causing an accident. Let's start with having stricter rules for obtaining a license. Some of us can handle driving 50 or more miles a day while talking on the phone, being courteous, and even drinking water, vodka, or nothing at the same time. Don't tell me what to wear in my car unless not doing so causes a problem.
