Should trucks be banned as it causes pollution?

you must be kidding...right?
Trucks aren't the only form of transportation that create pollution/smog. And if trucks (either personal or the big haulers) were banned you need to stop and realize how many more vehicles would be on the road due to lack of room or space for transporting items like the computer you sat at and asked this question among many other things. |

Not advised. This would pretty much shut down the entire nation, as just about everything we consume is shipped by rail or trucks.
Actually, we should ban volcanos, because scientists say THEY are responsible for the MAJORITY of pollution problems and global warming TOO.! |

Why just trucks? Why not cars and SUVs and ships and trains and planes and lawnmowers too?
I'm being facetious - we can't ban trucks unless we have another viable way to get finished products to the Midwest and get their raw product out to the factories. I mean, c'mon, where do you think the folks in Kansas get their salmon from? |

Yes, and cars, trains, boats, except for sail, motorcycles, furnaces, air conditioners, refrigerators, pretty much everything we have! Cand you live in a cave, hunt, and fish for your food with stone arrowheads, stone knives, etc?
Sorry, but it is a silly and impractical question.
And for the person who suggested it be required a person live close to the workplace, that only works if the law says your employer is never allowed to cut staff, move to a new location, or go out of business. |

Why not ban coal fired electric plants? Or are you one of those hippie dolts that doesn't know where the electricity comes from that runs your commune lights and laptops? |

Yes deffinately. And you should run around naked and hungry and live in a shack you made out of sticks you got from the forest and cut with a saw you made out of a rock. you will only be eating what you kill and drag back to the shack and you will only have water to drink from the creek or river and of course you'll have to figure out a way to make a vessel to collect that water.
If you have it a truck brought it and that truck had a driver that went above and beyond what he/she was paid to deliver your goods to you.So instead of worrying about banning trucks, you should show your appreciation to the driver with a little respect and courtesy. and it wouldn't hurt to say thank you either. |

This issue has been dealt with and becoming better by the day. Years ago when trucks belched plumes of black smoke this was a problem, since then they are energy efficient machines and yes they now have catalytic converts. The new fuel has been reformulated to reduce emissions and if you notice there is little or no smoke emitted from the ex aughts.
If you look at the weight that they move it really isn't an issue.
Your correct assuming that they pollute but when moving several thousand pounds well the risk is worth it.
There are several different classes of trucks some are designed for in town and some for interstate use. If the right class vehicle is used for the right application the emissions are reduced to a reasonable level. |

yes i agree. ban trucks. also add the aforementioned volcanoes and cows too....that methane isnt good for the ozone ya know. guess the original asker didnt bother to notice that 90%+ of the heavy trucks are diesels, which pollute less than the gas powered trucks....
sometimes it just isnt worth answering these inane questions |

Child, every single motorized vehicle causes pollution. Every single one. I dare you to show me one that doesn't. Now I know there may be doubters, even those who will call me an outright liar. But if you think outside the box, or even push the lid up and peek out, you will find out that I am right. Every time you start your vehicle, you are contributing to the pollution of the planet. So to single out trucks is short-sighted and irresponsible. |

I think people should have to prove the need for a truck as part of their business (contractor/delivery etc..) to be able to drive one. The only large gas hog vehicles that should be allowed on the road, should be those used by truckers, carrying products to and fro. All these big hunks of junk taking up space on the roads, spewing all that pollution, just to carry one person back and forth to their desk job is totally selfish and irresponsible. People should be required to live within a certain distance to work, and automakers should be mandated as to a 90% of fuel efficient cars manufactured and sold before the 10% of large vehicals couild even be considered. |
