Should we have a road law to stop youngsters drive fast cars?

Good idea, usually not always..people who pass their test think they can drive really well and take no notice of driving limits. It's really stupid. But then again I see people who are older and still drive like idiots. I don't mind them risking their lives but not other people.

First off your comment on saving thousands of lives a year suggests the wrong thing. 3000 odd die a year from many causes.

Better education would be a better step. Even a l000cc car can be quick, insurance is already high and people skirt that so better policing as well. Pet hate of mine, speed camera's have helped dumb down policing.

we already have laws against speeding, and how many more cops are (you) willing to pay for to enforce the new OZZY horsepower and c.c. laws. there are careless and good drivers from 16 to 90<

Even the smaller cars are quite capable of going fast. My partners 2001 1.3 fiesta will do 90mph plus. Is that not fast?

Doing 50 in the 30 zone will kill a pedestrian surely.

Insuring a car in the name of one's parents when you are the main driver is fraud under the 2006 fraud act. You have misrepresented the risk at proposal and Insurers. Should such a driver be involved in an accident and the Insurers discover that the main driver is the boy racer, the Insurer will deal with the Third Party damages (ie repair the car he has crashed into, or pay damages to the pedestrian he has crippled), however, they will probably refuse cover the damages to the drivers car (even if fully comprehensive cover is place), the Insurer will probably cancel the policy and will consider very seriously recovering their costs from the driver (this could be serious money, especially if there is an injury aspect to the claim). But even running off the road and hitting a house can quickly mount up to a Â£20-40k claim.

I don't think anyone under the age of 25 should be allowed behind the wheel.

So you think the drivers will suddenly become good drivers at 21? Good luck with that. Idiot drivers will be idiot drivers from the time they get their license to the time they lose it. Second problem is how do you enforce your law? You know how many street racers go buy a Honda Civic because they are cheap and light? Well it's a small car, and the thing about the street racers is they go buy a bigger engine. So are cops going to go checking out the smaller cars to check the engines? You spend no time thinking of the ways AROUND the law.

I would not allow anyone under 21 to drive. Not all of them by any means, but a lot of this age group seem to have no idea of the danger their driving poses to other road users.

I would agree but i wouldn't agree on totally exempting the allowance of youngsters to be insured on their parents policy cos that would be a bit harsh on the majority who do respect the law. But I would agree that if any insurance policy involving a young/new driver than they should make a limit to the car that they can drive like say no higher than say a 1.6-1.8 sort of range and that includes having them included in any policy under their parents name i.e if their dad owned a 2 litre bmw capable of over 150mph and say something like until they're over 21 and held a full license for 3 years or something like that till they can drive a high performance car cos I see more and more of these ppl that look about 17 driving mitibushis and imprezas and cars like that capable of upto around the 140-150mph mark speed, but older people in fast cars act like idiots too, time again I'm on the motorway, even if I'm doing upto 80 or 90mph i still always get men in their 40s-50s in bmws almost literally touching the bumper of my car until i move out there way and u think even the slightest sudden break I'd have to make could easily cause disaster.
Thats why I would say its not speed that kills, its bad driving that does.
I admit to speeding/breaking the limit, I know I'm breaking the law but least I think about it, think about other road users and make sure I'm doing it safely like on an empty motorway if I wanted to really tear it and not tearing through highstreets and residential roads or driving in an anti-social manner like a lot of these young drivers do.
But like others said, even some of the basic low engine cars young people have can still go at quite a speed like some upto 110-120mph
