Should you pass on the right when driving?

Tennessee Code Annotated 55-8-118.

When overtaking on the right is permitted. -

(a) The driver of a vehicle may overtake and pass upon the right of another vehicle only under the following conditions:

(1) When the vehicle overtaken is making or about to make a left turn;

(2) Upon a street or highway with unobstructed pavement not occupied by parked vehicles of sufficient width for two (2) or more lines of moving vehicles in each direction; and

(3) Upon a one-way street, or upon any roadway on which traffic is restricted to one (1) direction of movement, where the roadway is free from obstructions and of sufficient width for two (2) or more lines of moving vehicles.

(b) The driver of a vehicle may overtake and pass another vehicle upon the right only under conditions permitting such movement in safety. In no event shall such movement be made by driving off the pavement or main-traveled portion of the roadway.

it is illegal to pass on the right. esiply when your going off the road. Go to drivers ed.

If there is no actual lane on the right, then it is illegal to pass on the right. It sounds dumb, but I got a warning from a State Patrol officer for doing that just this past summer. I have a friend that is a county deputy, and he said he would never pull someone over for doing that, but it is illegal. Now if there's a lane, like on a highway, and some idiot is in the passing lane driving slow, then its legal because there is a lane there. But, if you're talking about driving on the burm, that's illegal.

yes ofcourse you should. I always do that. Only if there is one of those little lanse for walkers and bikes. Then sometimes I drive in that lane.

you should not , , there are alot of dumb drivers that dont know that they should be driving in the right lane excapt to pass or turn

It's probably illegal in some states, but there's not really any "safety" concern if the other car is going too slow for the left lane. In fact, it's safer to pass than to slow down also ---- unless you're speeding excessively, in which case you *should* consider slowing down. :)

If there are two lanes then yes you can pass on either side.
If it is a single lane and it is wide enough you are allowed to pass on the right BUT you have to be able to do it within 200 feet and not exceeding the speed limit. If it takes you longer than 200 feet then it is considered illegal.

In the state I live in it is legal to pass on the right as long as you stay in a legal lane. I wish I never needed to pass on the right but I see people driving 5 mph below the speed limit in the left lane too often.
