Silly ?...cars with mirrors that say" objects are closer than they appear" whats the purpose of them??????

there must be reasoning behind those mirrors, maybe i'm just curious, like to know though

Only the right side says that, it is to compensate for the driver being closer to one mirror than the other, if they were both the same it would be hard to tell how far away you were from something just by looking in the mirror.

they are convex so you can see a wider sweep on the passenger side....sometimes a car right on your bumper looks farther back, if you just rely on the mirror...

The only thing left out of the previous answers is the warning is placed on the mirrors so that people wont sue the manufacturer when they crash as a result of being to stupid to realize that
"objects are closer than they appear"

Because those mirrors are convex, and provide a much wider field of view than standard mirrors, eliminating most of the blind spots. A standard mirror on the passenger side would be literally useless because of its distance from the driver.

Side mirrors are not intended to be used for rear view. You already have a rear-view mirror. Side mirrors should be adjusted to allow the driver to view the adjacent lanes.

Yes, the objects in the convex mirror will appear smaller. But you'll be able to see the vehicle next to you, and you'll both be safer because of it.

i think its there because lets say for example you are driving and you see a car that looks like it is way behind u in your rearview mirror but it is closer then it appears. i guess to keep you safe. :)

they give you a larger view of the right side or lane

This mirror is curved slightly so that it provides a wider angle of view, which allows the driver to see the same ammount of info for either side.

It says "Objects are closer than they appear" so that every idiot who pulls a Spyhunter move to ram someone off the road on that side can't sue the car manufactureres for not telling them.

it's so you can see more on that side of the car

The passenger side mirror has a slight curve that shows the driver a wider field of vision. the curve will give a slight distortion to that sight--it brings objects closer to the eye and is intended for seeing the rear and it says--HEY-- SOMETHING IS THERE__BE CAREFUL

Right side mirrors are convex in order to give the driver more of a look to the rear on that side. 'Didn't used to be that way.
I think a neater and more meaningful notice would be: caution objects in mirror are BIGGER than they appear!!
