In the UK these people are braking the law by driving in the middle lane, overtaking lane, when there is no vehicle they should be treated like anyone else who brakes the law.
People traveling slowly in the middle lane not only cause long delays to other drivers who have to queue up to over take but are also one of the biggest causes of crashes.
Personally motorway driving should be restricted to people who have passed a test on how to drive on a motorway. There seem to be lots of people who are scared about the judging speeds and cars overtaking from behind, both of which I consider a basic driving skill. |

I understand there is a new law coming that the police say they will enforce to stop this.
These idiots drive me mad! |

lane 1 is for driving, lane 2 and 3 are for overtaking. Once the overtaking has been done. go back to lane 1.
Perhaps you should throw things at them |

A neighbour of mine has indeed been pulled over for driving too slowly... which knowing him doesn't surprise me.
It is in some respects just as dangerous as driving too quickly.
I think there should be an enforcable minimum speed on motorways. Any vehicle not capable of maintaining say 50mph should have to pay for a slow vehicle escort.
... and only be allowed on the road between 1am and 5am in the morning along with caravans haha! |

I too have heard that there's going to be a crackdown - I was talking to someone in the Highways Agency, and they're well aware of the problem. They're concerned about the waste of road space, where a 3-lane carriageway becomes a 2-lane one because of these people. As if there wasn't enough congestion already, without adding to it.
Instead of putting pointless information on the matrix signs, like "28 minutes to junction 14" or whatever, they should put things like "DON'T HOG THE MIDDLE LANE!". |

Yes they annoy me. I drive past them fast and sometimes throw things at them |

I know what you mean. There's one old git around here who was notorious for pulling onto the (70mph) dual carriageway, going straight to the outside lane and sitting there at 35mph in his Land Rover, simply on the basis that he was going to turn right 3 miles ahead. Nearly everyone local had had the pleasure of this old fool and in the end the local bobby pulled him and made tongue-in-cheek references to "due care" and "wilful obstruction". Cured him. |

Davy B is typical of this kind of ignorant deadhead who should be hauled over for a good wigging, they are at the very least inconsiderate
Obviously his competence to drive on motorways is very questionable. |

The strange thing is that the problem doesn't exist in France. Okay, people drive a bit closer to each other, but they PAY ATTENTION and move out of the way if necessary, and let people out too. |

Abso-bloody-lutely! The CLOC (Centre Lane Owners Club) really pisses me off!
I'm sure "Keep left unless overtaking" is still in the Highway Code somewhere... |

sitting in middle lane at 60 mph
i went round on the inside with my hand on the horn

I wouldn't go as far as saying they should be targeted, but I agree completely they are equally responsible for their inconsiderate behaviour as anyone else who believes it is their right to drive any way they please. Driving is a privilege, not a right.
There are many drivers who have no clue as to what's going on around them. They simply don't have a clue as to whether or not they are being a bottleneck and are surprised when they get the reaction they do. They are just ignorant of the problems they are causing. Use your mirrors folks (and turn signals and stay in your lane when turning left and right, and no U-turns in intersections).
Slow drivers, have some consideration and it will only create dangerous situations for you and those in your car if you decide to 'defend' your driving style and deliberately annoy those who are trying to get through. Let the maniacs get as far away from you as possible
Fast drivers, have some consideration and understand that you don't own the road any more than the slow drivers. The slow person in your way is still someone's father/mother/son/daughter/grandmother/g... one, etc. You wouldn't want some crazy person endangering your loved ones would you? |

Whilst I don't condone centre lane hogging if there is plenty of room in the left hand lane, I usually find the average speed in the LH lane is well below the legal limit.
The middle lane however is usually running at or just above the legal limit.
So this brings two dilemmas, if I'm in a truck that is speed limited to 60mph, I will do 60 mph in the LH lane (traffic permitting)
Should I come up behind someone in the middle lane doing 50 mph, I just keep going, I'm not allowed in the outer lane, and I'm certainly NOT going to start downshifting just to match speeds.
The second point is that max speeds on UK motorways, is usually around the 80 mark, and providing no feds are about, considerably higher, so this leaves plenty of scope for those that can to use the outer lane to pass.
To the best of my knowledge there is no minimum speed limit on any motorway save causing an obstruction, so use a bit of common sense. |

In LA the right lanes are for trucks @55mph. The middle lane is the only safe lane cause the cars are going 70 mph and faster. 65 mph is the limit outside LA city limits. |

True if someone is driving very slowly,I try to stay within the speed limit on motorways, but you can always rely on some nuckle head having to overtake even if I am doing 80MPH!
Some peole are just not happy until they are infront of everyone else. |

I drive in the middle lane on motorways and will continue to do so when there is traffic going slower in the left lane.
But - and it is a big but - I shall be traveling at 70mph. I do not consider that it is prudent or safe to keep bobbing backwards and forwards into the left lane.
No one should need to overtake me and those that do may use the outside [overtaking] lane. But they will be exceeding the speed limit. |

If you let things like that upset you while driving, then you shouldn't be driving. |

If they are within the law, then no. Most highways have a max speed limit and a min speed limit. If they are between these, they are following the law. Most people that get aggitated are in a big hurry, driving unsafe, and speeding. |

Nobody makes the other drivers react the way they do. The other drivers choose to react that way. Therefore, they are responsible for the results of their acting in an aggressive fashion.
If a person is driving within the posted speed limits, then it doesn't matter how "slow" they appear to be driving to anyone else. As long as they are being lawful in their driving, then that is all that matters. It's people who choose to react recklessly who are the menaces. |
