Sleeping in car kills?

Sleeping in car kills?

I know this question has came up before but what I really interested to find out is, does sleeping in the car for long hours with engine and aircon on REALLY kills? Or is just up to individuals or depends on what kind of car u sleep in? If it does kills no matter what car u use or whatever condition is a person, no solution to this problem yet?

So it seems there's a difference between open air or in a enclosed place like a garage. Does that mean a person will only dies if inside an enclosed place n not open air?

It is the carbon monoxide that kills. It really only applies if there is no ventilation, like in a garage. This is assuming a modern car with no gross manifold leaks.

Carbon monoxide is the thing that kills. If enough is breathed in,it will kill by displacing and excluding oxygen.
Carbon monoxide is a toxin to the human body and there is a point wherein the body dies from inhaling it and not enough oxygen.
It is never a good idea to sleep in a car with the engine running.CO can creep in and kill you while you are asleep.
Always shut the engine off after the car is warmed/cooled enough, vent the cab of the car by cracking the windows slightly every once in a while. They can always be rolled back up and the car heated/cooled again.
A headache will signal the presence of CO,but by then you may be in a stupor and unable to respond. If the windows are cracked open slightly, the problem solves itself.
That presumes that you are not inside a building but in the open air.
PS:If you can smell the exhaust, then you are inhaling carbon monoxide.
PSS:If you are in an open space and not inside a building,it is much less likely to kill.

This actually happened to my best friends father about 35 years ago. He was using his car to travel for business, he pulled into a rest area to take a nap , it was cold so he left the car running , he didn't know he had a leak in his exhaust system and he died as a result.
This is also a very common occurrence in snow conditions. You're driving on the interstate , an accident happens ahead of you , traffic comes to a dead stop and you're stuck for an unknown amount of hours. You run the car periodically to keep warm but then something interesting happens ; the snow piles up against your car in effect creating a garage , your tail pipe gets blocked. the wind dies down and now you are sitting in a deadly puddle of exhaust gases . Snow country basics;
carry a way to keep warm w/ o running your car & If you forgot to do that then keep the window cracked & periodically get out and clear the area around the tailpipe.

The silent killer when sleeping in a car that isn't vented, is carbon monoxide. So if your asking what is the culprit that is doing the killing while sleeping. It's people who do not think to crack the windows open and let some fresh air in while taking a nap, because you will find yourself helpless if carbon monoxide takes over.So it's a combination of two things,Exhaust and Stupidness......SOLUTION..Don't do it...and check to make sure you have no exhaust leaks at all...can do the same while being wide awake and driving if fumes get into the interior of car with windows closed.....

You could be in the middle of a parking lot.Carbon monoxide can still get into the car and you'll never wake up. The condition of the car makes little difference.

You're using your head by asking questions like this. Be safe.

DONT BE STUPID! you read or see on the news everyday about someone that died because they were sleeping in a car with the engine running. What?Do you think your immune to carbon monoxide poisoning?Unless you can hold your breath for hours at a time,I woudnt do it on a regular basis!

doobie true
It will only kill you if you are in an enclosed space such as a garage and you leave a small crack in the window so the monoxide can get in. If you are outside it would have to have the exhaust directly leaking into the car before it will kill. Why? Thinking of suicide?

Sleeping in a car may also kill you and others if you are behind the wheel while the car is moving (you are supposed to be driving)!

Highly Favoured
The best thing to do is to turn off the engine, open the windows a crack just to allow air in to breathe and go to sleep.

It kills because there are no supply of oxygen and carbon monoxide is the only air revolving in the car. When there's no supply of oxygen, you'll die
