Snow: to drive or not drive?

Snow: to drive or not drive?

At what level of snow do you think driving becomes too hazardous? How many inches of snow. I'm referring to getting out to work and at what point would you say i just can't get risk driving?

less then 1 inch, if snow has settled on the road, it's very hazardous.

Its safer to drive during the day time but as the night falls the roads turn to ice. dont drive at night

Please punctuate properly folks.
I drove to work today - took it very steady, it was fine. Same deal tomorrow.

its never safe to drive to work..=D
well less than 1 inch because the car becomes hard to handle when the roads are slippy, you try to brake even going at 5mph and the car sort of veers off to the right and you'd end up doing a 360...very dangerous.

In New England we drive in snow all the time. Of course, we also have trucks plowing and sanding constantly during storms. You just have to go slowly, and avoid braking if you can...just take your foot off the gas to slow down, and never slam on your brakes. Be gentle!

I'd say that if you're not aware of how dangerous it can be, then any amount of snow or ice is a no - go.
I live on an unsalted unclassified road, which has had snow on it all day - it's pretty difficult to stand up on it, but there are still people doing about 40 - 50 mph past my house. As per a previous response, you have to take account of the idiot coming the other way too.

I can't see what all the fear is about snow in this country. In Scandinavia, they manage quite well by driving with the correct tyres and with care according to the conditions. Here, we are in such a rush to get everywhere on roads that are overcrowded and unfit for purpose.
Where I live, we have country lanes on which, locals tend to drive slowly, can be much more hazardous than a main road, especially in snow because we suffer with boy racers in their Subaru's and the like thinking that they are Sebastian Loeb with a celestial guide for blind corners.
I think that what I'm saying is that as an individual, you can go out, get experience of driving in these conditions and become competent. The danger is the other driver who has neither experience or consideration.

If you have a truck, then you can drive whenever whereever. But if not, then it would probably be best to stay at home.
