sorry, first time using answers. i got a ticket going 83 in a 55 in upstate ny on 17 by liberty. In one of the court documents that they sent to me, it said that i was traveling west, but in truth i was traveling east. The cop was traveling west while i was traveling east, saw that i was speeding, pulled into one of those u-turn things and came after me. Can i use the document that they sent to keep from getting to screwed. And does anyone have any advice on what i can say to get from getting to screwed, thanks

You have no case. You're only chance is to hope the cop doesn't show up to court, which won't happen. Minute details like east and west mean nothing. The fact is you were speeding and well over 20 miles over which in a lot of states is an automatic 2 points on your driving record.
You're only option is to take the ticket, go to traffic school and get it off your record. If you fight it and lose (which you will) you can't go to traffic school then. I have no idea why you people constantly speed, get caught and try to look for some loop hole as if the cop was wrong.
You made the mistake. Man up and pay the consequences and drive carefully next time. |

The east/west thing isn't going to matter much as the judge will generally believe the cop, not you. That's how it typically works. Bottom line - find yourself an attorney, and pay him or her $200 to handle the case for you. Your attorney can try to work out a deal with the DA or the judge to get it reduced to no points if it's a first time offense. You might still have a fine, but at least your insurance rate won't go up. |
