The posted speed limit on any Interstate Highway is the maximum legally allowed speed during ideal road conditions, for lots of reasons. On wet roads, ice, snow or any other hazardous conditions, the speed limit is left to the good judgement of drivers, but also to the opinion of traffic officers.
If you're asking what you can get away with, it will depend largely on the good nature & common sense of traffic officers. +5 mph probably won't get you in trouble in most places. But there is no guarantee.
If you are speeding (5+ - 10+ over) for whatever reason, you should slow down to the speed limit immediately when you see a police vehicle. This will often show the officer that you are aware of your speed & not running wild. It might get you out of being stopped.
Be safe! An extra 5mph won't save you but a minute or two on most trips and even less that 60 seconds on short ones. |

usually they will let you get away with 5 over. 10 is pushing it. Just depends on the officer and the mood they are in that particular day. |

I always go with over 5 but it really depends on who is doing the radar and what type of mood he is in.
They will usually allow 5 for tire size diferrential. I know my brothers truck will say your going one speed but when I followed him I would be doing about 5 more than he was just to keep up. |

Well...60 is the "limit" but some cops don't usually stop people if they passed the limit by 5. 10+ may be a little too fast. |

It depends... In Texas, the speed limit is 65. You can get away with 70 or 75. Fast land is ok with 80. But if you're driving in the other 2 lanes, you can do 70 or 75. But also be careful, because there might be an unmarked highway patrolman. |

Depends on the state..some states have a zero tolerance....In Georgia if you don't exceed 10mph over the posted limit most times your OK... talking Interstate ... in constructions Zones its best to obey the posted limits.. |

Speed can be control by cruiser control or some electronic means they are common in US and nobody care for overspeeding here in India even cops many times. |

Even some police will tell you that they will not ticket you if you are going 5 miles over the limit. That is not the point. The Limit is not there as a test to see if the trooper will ticket you. The limit is there because of how safe the road is at certain speeds. These roads are built and designed by engineers. Not all engineers have there thinking caps on when they design freeways or high speed roads. Think about it. When was it the last time someone said this road is bad that they should of built it better. Please do the speed limit and you will be safer and for the most part get there faster then the guy that is following to close because he is going to fast. Try it a couple of times and make a choice. Its your life and the other driver is not thinking about you he is thinking of himself. |

The correct answer is 60. That's why they call it a "limit." I dare you to tell the cop who pulls you over that it's "okay" to go 5 or 10 over. See where that gets you. Geez, what kind of dumb question is this?
I have heard that you can contest tickets under 10 mph over the limit due to radar inaccuracy, but that by no means makes it legal to speed. Besides, even if this is really true, that would mean that a radar could actually clock you at 70 even you're only doing 60, and 80 if you're doing 70. |
