I was driving passed a speed camera (that I know of) at about 28mph, a couple of days ago, At the same time a vehicle came from the opposite direction, that was obviously speeding, The camera flashed twice, and now I'm wondering whether it had detected the other driver, or was it for me?

It would have been the one that was speeding - the camera always takes 2 pictures.
If you were under the speed limit then there's nothing to worry about. |

I wouldn't worry - for the following reasons...
First off - speed cameras are usually set to trigger at ten percent above the speed limit for the road - so in a 30 limit - it would trigger at 33mph.
Second - They're positioned to only cover the lane they're next to - they have a narrow field of vision, and disregard any vehicles in other lanes !
In addition to that - near the camera (in the lane it's covering) is a series of short parallel lines across the road (about a foot long) - these are so that the person who studies the pictures can work out how fast the offending car was travelling.

T'other one, don't worry. Gatsos always photograph - twice - the rear of an offending vehicle that's passing them against the background of markings on the road. Some, on central reservations, can be rotated to face either way but you can tell which way one's facing by the apertures on the face of it. If its back is towards you as you approach, it would be you it looks at as you pass. |

it flashed the speeding bloke for sure,it measures how fast by comparing the distance travelled in the two photo's it took and using the white lines painted on the floor. seeing as you were on the other side of the road,it's impossible for you to be done for it. have no fear,3 points and your 60 quid are still safe!! |

if you were doing 28mph then unless you were in a 20mph zone you got nothing to worry about |
